MLB Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish

mlb pitching prognostication – 9/4/2016

All prices are DraftKings unless otherwise stated

Today seems like a slate full of options at all price levels and makes for a great GPP day. I’ll give you a top-tier option while filling you in on some low-cost options I’ll be using as well. Let’s jump right in!

Julio Teheran – ATL at PHI – $10,000

Again, we pick on the Phillies. It’s hard not to when they roll out the righty heavy lineups full of strikeouts. Seven of today’s hitters can strikeout multiple times and Teheran should take advantage of that. You combine that with righties hitting only .248 wOBA against him and he’s in line for a pretty solid afternoon. If I had to pay up at pitching today Teheran would be my guy and it’s not even close.

Yu Darvish – TEX vs. HOU – $11,800

The majority of the good spots today are owned by the top-tier. This is one of the juiciest strikeout matchups in the MLB and today it belongs to RHP Yu Darvish. Although the park doesn’t favor him, the majority of this lineup has strikeout rates close to 30%. Right-handers are collectively hitting .292 wOBA and a mere 168 ISO. Look for Darvish to dominate and good deep into this ball game. Feel free to roll him out in cash or tournaments.

Steven Brault – PIT vs. MIL – $4,700

We need cheap pitching with all these top options and RHP Steven Brault fits the bill. He faces off against Milwaukee who can’t seem to hit a basketball right now. Brault hasn’t shown the best stuff in the majors, but at near minimum salary, makes for a pretty interesting play in tournaments. I love paying for bats in GPPs and this is one of the few ways I can today. Slim pickings in this tier but he should be the best option.

Jose De Leon – LAD vs. SD – $7,700 (Late Nugget)

A top prospect making his debut against one of the worst offenses in baseball. RHP Jose De Leon is a high strikeout machine who should fair very well in his first start. He’s gone deep into games recently and shouldn’t have a short leash here in his first start. If he was part of the early-slate, he would be a top play for me. For the all-day players, this guy is the real deal and should be in line for a dominant outing tonight.

Tons of great options in the top-tier and very few in the bottom. Look for Brault or Miley to provide you the salary relief you need, giving you enough room to pay for bats. It’s a tough slate as you have to roster a pitcher you’re not really interested in, but that comes with increasing upside. Either way, choose the top-tier guy you like the most and have fun this afternoon. Till next time, party animals!
