Matt Duchene – OTT vs. BUF
DraftKings – $5,300
FanDuel – $5,900
The duo of Matt Duchene and Mike Hoffman have been pretty good together offensively since Duchene was traded way back in November. With those two on the ice, the Senators generate over 60 shot attempts per 60 minutes. They’re bad defensively but that doesn’t matter for our purpose.
Buffalo being on a road-back-to-back is a positive here. It goes beyond that, though. It’s been nearly four weeks since Jack Eichel was injured for the Sabres. In the meantime, Sam Reinhart and Ryan O’Reilly have done yeoman’s work on the makeshift top line, as the Sabres allow just 47 shot attempts per 60 minutes and have a 57.3 percent shot share in that span. Buffalo’s problem is that since the Eichel injury, when Reinhart and O’Reilly are off the ice, the team gets absolutely decimated by the opposition to the tune of 67 shot attempts allowed per 60 minutes of five-on-five and a 39.8 percent shot share.
Duchene and Hoffman should probably avoid the O’Reilly line in a home matchup. For much of the season, coach Guy Boucher has used either whichever players constitute the third line at the time, or Mark Stone’s line. That leaves Duchene and Hoffman – two good offensive players – free reign against what is essentially three AHL lines. Duchene is fine to use in cash games and also in a tournament stack.
