NHL Power Plays 3/23/18
We have a small five-game slate this Friday night but there is a nice array of both cheap and expensive options to use. As always, check our Premium Slack chat for updates throughout the day.
Riley Nash – BOS at DAL
DraftKings – $5,700
FanDuel – $5,800
For the majority of the season, going into Dallas was a pretty daunting task. Goaltending aside, over the first half of the campaign, Dallas gave up the fewest adjusted shot attempts per 60 minutes at five-on-five, and the fewest adjusted high-danger shot attempts. Even though their goaltending was outside the top half of the league, they gave up goals at a rate similar to Nashville because of how good they were defensively.
Things change, though. Since the calendar flipped to 2018, the team has plummeted to the middle of the league in shot attempts allowed and dropped to fifth in high-danger chances allowed. That’s at the team level. At the individual level, guys like Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are even worse when it comes to allowing shots, eschewing the early-season slow-moving game for a much higher-paced game. That duo has been on the ice for about 22 percent more shots in the second half of the season compared to the first. It’s a drastic change that has led to more goals against even though the team’s save percentage has gone up.
All this is good news for Riley Nash and the rest of Boston’s top line. What once would have been a matchup to be leery of is now one that can be exploited. An entire stack here makes sense, including Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak along with Nash.
*As an added bonus, if you’re looking to pay down further at centre but still looking for a top-line guy, Travis Zajac was moved in between Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri for the Devils. He’s considerably cheaper than Nash though I suspect he’ll carry more ownership because of it.
