NHL Power Plays 3/1/18
We are back for an eight-game slate for this Thursday night. A quick reminder to always check the Premium Slack chat throughout the day for updates on line combinations, injuries, and scratches.
Jeff Carter – LAK vs. CBJ
DraftKings – $5,300
FanDuel – $6,300
Though he’s only been in the lineup for three games since returning from injury, it’s been an incredible run for Carter with two goals and 18 shots. That’s a pretty good start to the final quarter of the season.
While the Kings are notorious for lineup tinkering, Carter is pretty consistent about skating with Tyler Toffoli. It’s a good thing, too, as that duo has been on the ice for over 64 shot attempts per 60 minutes at five-on-five together this year, over 68 per 60 minutes last year, and over 75 the year before that. They don’t always convert at a high rate, but the shot volume generated by the Kings with these two on the ice is enough to make feel DFSers feel “safe” in cash games.
With Zach Werenski and Seth Jones on the bench with the team on the road this year, the Blue Jackets give up about 17 percent more shots. It’s not unusual given their talent at both ends of the ice, but it’s good news for Carter. That duo starts far more often in the offensive zone while Anze Kopitar starts most often in the defensive zone for Los Angeles. That should leave Carter and his line mates with a lot of shifts away from the Columbus shutdown pair, and thus better matchups.
Carter’s price has risen sharply since returning but this is a player who was often above $6,000 last year. At his price in this matchup, there is no issue using him in cash games, and he and Toffoli make a nice mini-stack for relatively cheap.
