NHL Power Plays 3/28/17
We are winding the regular season down, there’s only a little over a week left! There are 11 games on tap for tonight, and there are a couple nice matchups we can take advantage of. There are three teams playing on a back to back: The Sabres, Predators, and Panthers. NHL dfs is kind of nice because there aren’t teams like the NBA that rest players heading into the playoffs. Plus the race for the playoffs this last week there are a lot of teams pushing and the point totals are really close.
When you are making you teams I can’t stress enough that you need to make sure your goalie is actually confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great place to get up to the minute news and information is the teams and beat writers for the teams themselves. I have created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. Now let’s dig into the slate and see if we can find you a couple plays to help you take down that big GPP. Here are your Power Plays for tonight, good luck!

Pricing is in DK format unless otherwise noted.
Jack Eichel – BUF @ CLS – $7,200
Eichel has a ton of talent with a wicked shot. He has 12 points over his last ten games, and he has multi point upside every night. This game could be a sneaky shootout tonight and I will have some exposure to it on both sides. Eichel has been shoot the puck a ton, averaging 4.5 SOG over his last ten games. The Jackets are allowing 9.89 SCA/60 which is the 3rd most on the slate. Eichel seems to thrive in the tough matchups and I like his chances of tallying a point tonight.
Ryan Kesler – ANH @ VAN – 6,300
The Ducks seemed to have found a groove winning four straight, and they have also won six out of their last seven. Kesler busted out of a pretty long drought with a point in his last two games. Vancouver is a bottom ten team and they don’t intimidate much. The Canucks have the third worst penalty kill in the league with a 74.7% kill rate in their own building. Kesler has brought his shot volume up to respectable numbers recently averaging just about three shots on goal over the last four games, and I think he could keep it going, especially against the Canucks.
Vinny Trocheck – FLA @ TOR – $6,000
Trocheck gets an up pace matchup tonight that should have a lot of action and a lot of scoring chances. Toronto plays a really fast paced game and Trcheck should get the better of the matchups as the Kadri line will try to shut down the Barkov line. Leaving either the Matthews line or Bozak line to match up with Trocheck, which really isn’t worrisome. Toronto’s goaltending has been pretty suspect lately and they can be had for a couple on any given night.
Austin Matthews – TOR vs FLA – $7,800
The Leafs take on the Panthers tonight who are in the hind end of a road back to back and could have a little trouble with the speed and youth on the Leafs. Matthews has a five game point streak rolling and he has looked great. He has a ton of talent and he is a great facilitator when he isn’t sniping. Toronto has a ton of offense and they should have a high implied tonight. Like I said in the previous post, if Matthews ends up getting the depth line matchups, he could have a massive game tonight.
Philip Danault – MON vs DAL – $4,100
Danault is pointless in his last three games, but he draws a nice matchup tonight against the Stars. Dallas is a great team to pick on, as it has been the whole year now. The Stars have played better recently and they are actually on a two game win streak believe it or not, but they are still giving up a ton of goals on the road (3.54 GAA) and their penalty kill is still the worst in the league (72.2% PK). Danault is centering the top line between Max Pacioretty and Alexander Radulov on even strength, he should get plenty of opportunities and chances tonight.
Patrick Laine – WPG @ NJ – $6,700
Laine sat out last game with an illness but he should be back in, just make sure he is confirmed in the lineup tonight.
Cam Atkinson – CBJ vs BUF – $7,200
The Jackets haven’t looked like the Jackets from earlier in the season where they were putting up 5 goals on the regular, but tonight they are in a good spot. Atkinson has been snake bit with a four game point drought, but he is still shooting the puck which is promising. Buffalo gives up the most shots on goal In the league (35 SA/A) and they also own the league third worst PK on the road with a 74.4% kill rate. This is a get right spot for Atkinson and the Jackets.
Max Pacioretty – MTL vs DAL – $6,700
Pacioretty might be a little popular tonight but there good reasoning for it. Dallas has been absolutely pitiful on the road despite having a couple elite players. The Stars have the worst penalty kill in the league on the road and Pacioretty looks to carve it up tonight. Over the last ten games he has an average shot total of 3.7 shots per game, tonight that should be the minimum I think. Stack him up with Alex Radulov and Shea Weber or full even strength line with Philip Danault
Viktor Arvidsson – NSH @ BOS – $6,100
Arvidsson has been playing some solid hockey lately with nine points in his last eight games. His shot volume has been inflated and he is seeing the open ice and taking advantage of his opportunities. He is a very strong skater with shifty moves and he can create his own shot. The match up isn’t great on paper, but the Bruins have been pretty leaky lately, giving up 21 goals over their last five games. Nashville hasn’t had any shortage of goals or opportunities lately either. Arvidsson should go overlooked in this situation as everyone will be in the other side on Boston, but he is still in a pretty good spot.
Jeff Skinner – CAR vs DET – $5,900
Skinner gets to play the Red Wings again tonight as they are finishing up their home and home stand. Last night these teams faced off and the was no shortage of scoring opportunities, as the Hurricanes also lost their goaltender Eddie Lack. Metric wise the Wings and the Canes both give up the most scoring opportunities in their respective split. Detroit is giving up 9.27 SCA.60 and they are also giving up 32.7 Shots on goal per game. This game has good upside for a shootout and they proved that last night with a score of 4-3 and DET coming out victoriously. A game stack could just work tonight.
Shea Weber – MTL vs DAL – $5,100
Weber was in a little bit of a funk but he now has four points in six games. He has an absolute cannon of a shot, and he has started using it more often. Over the last ten games, Weber is averaging just about five SHOCKS (shots & blocks), and tonight he should get to tee off a couple times. Weber is also the quarterback on the top power play unit, and that’s where we want to attack the Stars with their putrid penalty kill.
Zach Werenski – CLS vs BUF – $5,700
Werenski just like Weber is the quarterback of the top power play for the Jackets, and he gets a juicy matchup with the Sabres who are right next to Dallas in penalty killing skills. The Sabres are without their top defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen for one more game due to suspension and that kills their defensive abilities. The Jackets have a lot of offensive talent and Werenski is in a good spot tonight.
Cody Ceci – OTT v PHI – $3,500
Ceci isn’t s household name, it we need to save some salary tonight and there’s a couple defensive punts that I don’t mind and Ceci is one of them tonight. He isn’t a point monster but he has been shooting the puck on a more regular basis, he is averaging 3.7 SHOCKS over the last ten game and he is averaging about 23 minutes of ice time a game. Ceci also gets a little time on the extra man advantage on the second power play unit.
Zach Bogosian – BUF @ CLS – $3,000
Bogosian is another punt that I have been using the past couple games for the Sabres. Since Rasmus Riistilainen was suspended the Sabres needed someone to step up and play more quality minutes, that man was Bogosian. He ha been getting opportunities on the power play also, but I like him because he blocks a lot of shots. For 3K if he can keep doing what he has been for the past two games he should smash his salary expectations.
Sergei Bobrovsky – CLS vs BUF – $8,300
Bobrovsky at home has been rock solid with a 1.82 GAA and a .941 save %. He should see the thirty shots we are looking for in tournaments and according to Vegas, they like his chances to pull out the victory. He makes for one of the top tenders tonight. You can also look to a guy like Carey Price if your able to spend up.
Braden Holtby – WSH vs MIN – $7,800
We get a huge discount on Holtby tonight because he is on the road with a tough matchup. He makes for an amazing tournament play because he will be super low owned, and let’s face it, Holtby is one of the best goalies in the league. Minnesota has been in turmoil lately losing eight of their last nine games and they have given up at least three goals in six of them. Holtby should see plenty of rubber tonight and if he can steal one in Minnesota he could have a huge night, and no one will be on him.
