NHL Power Plays – 12/10/16
Happy Saturday Vice squad! Hopefully you read the Power Plays article on Thursday and made out like a bandit, as team Vice squad killed it! The gamestack of the Oilers and Flyers went off for 11 goals total. Our own FantasyShane took down the Forecheck and the 1K satty for the Q in Boston, he had a phenomenal night. Yours truly scored a 62.1 in my lineup that I had as a place setter lineup. I reserved the contests I usually play every day, but I got caught in family obligations. I lost track of time and forgot to enter the lineup into my reserved contests. Yep, of course it was the day that I would have taken every tournament down. but hindsight is 20/20, and at least FanVice got a victory with Shane’s lineup. Take note of my misfortunes and make sure you enter your lineups! Anyway, enough of my rants I know your not here for that, we have a nice looking ten game slate on the docket tonight. Ten game slates are great because there is always different approaches you can take. Let’s see if we can find you a couple GPP gems tonight, good luck!

Back to Back
San Jose Sharks
Third Game in Four Nights
San Jose Sharks
Sean Monaghan – CGY vs WPG – $5,800
Monahan has been playing lights out lately with a six game point streak, and he has eight points in those games. Now that Johnny Gaudreau – $7,000 is back, the Flames have seemed to have found some life. This game tonight could be a game stack with some massive upside. Both teams can fill the net up on certain occasions, and both teams are tied for being the most penalized teams in the league. They also have bad penalty kills. Stacking the power play units up against each other tonight makes a lot of sense and I will own a stack of this game.
Ryan Johansen – NSH vs ARI -$6,300
Johansen and the Preds get a nice matchup tonight against the Coyotes, who are giving up 35 shots per game, and are also the second worst team in goals allowed, giving up 3.12 goals on average. Johansen logs great minutes in the top line and he also centers the top power play unit, which Arizona is a bottom ten team at killing penalties. Johansen is in a great spot tonight.
Alexander Wennberg – CBJ vs ARI – $6,000
Wennberg has gone two games without a shot and that’s highly unlikely for him. He is logging great minutes on the top line of the Jackets, and manning the point on the top power play line. The matchup against the Coyotes is a juicer matchup tonight. We all know that Columbus can put a five spot up with ease and Tonight could be another one of those nights as long as Mike Smith doesn’t stop 60 shots again.
Evgeni Malkin – PIT vs TB – $7,400
Malkin has 11 points in his last seven games. He saves you a little money from the top line with Sidney Crosby. In December alone although it’s a small sample size, the Penguins are averaging six goals per game and they have been lighting the lamp at an alarming rate. The Lightning are having massive trouble scoring with sloppy play, and they are giving up three goals per game in December. Pittsburgh should be able to mark the score sheet a couple times tonight with Tampa’s poor goaltending too.
Alexander Barkov – FLA vs VAN – $6,100
Although Florida is having a rough go at it, Barkov is riding a three game point streak. Even with the changes in coaches, lines, and schemes, Florida is still limiting chances and they have a good matchup tonight against the Canucks. Vancouver doesn’t shoot much and they are the lowest scoring team in the league per game. Barkov might be able to avoid the Sedin sisters and if he can do that, he should be in a good spot.
David Pasternak – BOS vs TOR – $7,200
Pasternak has been a monster lately. He has seven points in his last five games. NHL dfs is never a sure bet, but Pasternak and Crosby are the closest thing to it. Toronto plays a fast game, but they’re still allowing the fourth most amount of goals on the year at just over three per game. The Leafs are also allowing the sixth most shots on net per game, giving up just over 32. The Bruins will have the last change and they should match up the Bergeron and Pasternak line against the Mathews Nylander line, and should avoid the Kadri line, giving him a plus matchup. Pasta man makes for a great play tonight.
James Neal – NSH vs ARI – $6,900
Neal has four points in four games and has a great matchup tonight against the Coyotes. Nashville is top ten in Corsi at 52.1% and Arizona is dead last. I’m expecting the Preds to have their way with the Coyotes tonight and if your looking for Correlation plays then look for Neal, Mike Fisher – $4,900 and Roman Josi – $6,600 as they all play on the same Power play unit and even strength .
Patrik Laine – WPG vs CGY – $7,300
Laine has three multi point games in his last five contests. He’s got a great matchup tonight against the Flames, who are taking just as much penalties as the Jets, and their penalty kill is just as bad. It’s king this game with all the power play units and you could stack Laine up with Bryan Little – $5,600 and someone like Jacob Trouba – $4,400 to keep salary down, or pay up for big Byfuglien – $6,100
Johnny Gaudreau – CGY vs WPG – $7,000
Johnny hockey is on a mission after coming back from injury. He has seven points in his last four games, and three games straight with multiple points! He’s not shooting a ton yet but that will come, he’s making the most out of the shots he gets though. The Jets are giving up the eighth most goals per game, averaging just shy of three goals.
Sam Gagner – CBJ vs NYI – $4,400
Gagner’s price has risen a decent amount but I still like the spot he is in tonight against the Islanders. Gagner has six points in his last two games, and yes one was an empty netter, but he’s getting top power play minutes and gets you some good value. He’s averaging almost four shots per game. The Islanders are bottom ten in goals allowed per game, and they are bottom five in shots on net per game. Columbus also has a great power play unit and Gagner gets involved.
Roman Josi – NSH vs ARI – $6,600
Josi does it all, logs huge minutes, he shoots, blocks shots, and plays the top power play unit. As I said earlier, the Preds should be able to notch a couple goals tonight and Josi could be in on it. Opportunity and matchup is key and tonight he has both
Aaron Ekblad – FLA vs VAN – $4,700
Ekblad is logging good minutes for a defenseman, he’s logging about 23 minutes of ice time per game. He is also playing on the top power play unit and he shoots a ton. The Canucks are giving up the seventh worst amount of goals at 2.9 per game, and their kill is just below league average. The Panthers could be in for a bounce back game tonight, and Ekblad should have something to do about it.
Justin Schultz – PIT vs TB – $3,700
Schultz has been playing some great hockey and his price he’s a bargain. He plays on the second power play unit and he has eight points in his last five games. I’ll take that value as long as it’s given to me. Pittsburgh has been filling the net up lately and I’m riding the value train till it derails.
Brett Pesce – CAR vs SJ – $3,200
Pesce is another great value play. He’s a defensive minded player that loves to block shots. He is averaging over three blocks per game. He also plays on the second power play unit and that’s extra opportunity. At his price you can hardly go wrong. He should be blocking a ton of rubber tonight as the Sharks tee off. He’s in play for cash or GPS tonight.
Tuukka Rask – BOS vs TOR – $7,800
Tukka has been great this yeah and he has a good matchup against the Leafs who have struggled lately. Tuukka is sporting a 1.79 goals against in average and a .933 save % on the year. I like his chances to get the W tonight and though I don’t think he gets a shutout, he should see plenty of rubber to make up for a goal or two that he gives up.
Matt Murray – PIT vs TB – $7,400
Murray has been phenomenal on the road this year with a 1.74 goals against in average and a .938 save %. The Lightning have been playing some bad hockey lately and I love the chance of Murray coming in and stealing a game on the road tonight.
