NHL Power Plays – 12/08/16

Tonight we have a big ten game slate with a lot of even matchups, and it should be a fun slate to watch.  There are two teams playing on a back to back, and a couple playing their  game in four nights. Always make sure you double check your goalies, and players line assignments.  I usually try to tell the people in our premium Slack Chat the changes, or I will Tweet them out. Now let’s see if we can find you the plays to get you over the top to win that big GPP tonight on this nice ten game slate.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me on the premium Slack chat or on Twitter @Votts_DFS.

Back to Back

Boston Bruins

Carolina Hurricanes

Third game in four nights

Boston Bruins

Arizona Coyotes

Florida Panthers

Connor McDavid – EDM vs PHI – $8,400

McJesus snapped his two game drought last game with two assists, and he should be able to fire a new streak tonight against the Flyers. McDavid is leading the league in goals and gets a good matchup tonight against the Flyers.  Philly is a fast paced team and they get sloppy at times, which results in goals.  They are giving up just over three goals per game, and without Sean Couturier to lock down McDavid tonight, he should be able to notch a point if not a goal.  This could be a good night to game stack The Oilers and the Flyers and hope the fireworks ensue.

Sidney Crosby – PIT vs FLA – $8,600

Crosby has been nothing short of spectacular this year, leading the league in goals at 17 despite missing some time with his concussion. He is sporting a five game point streak, with eight points in those five.  Crosby gets to take on the Panthers tonight, who have seemed to be in a little bit of disarray after firing their head coach two weeks ago.  The Panthers are coming off an extended road trip and only one day rest from playing a fast paced game with the Flyers, so they could be a little sluggish.  Which isn’t good against the Penguins, who have had no problem filling the back of the net up lately, coming off an eight goal game.  The pens are leading the league with shots on net per game at 34.7 shots per.  Not to mention in December alone they are averaging just over 40 shots on net per game.  The offense is clicking for the pens and Crosby is a good play tonight.

Alexander Steen – STL vs NYI – $5,700

Steen has a three game point streak going and has looked great on the ice recently. St. Louis has won five out of their last six games, and in each game they have scored at least three goals. Steen gets to take on the Islanders tonight, who in their own right have been a pretty poor possession hockey team.  The Islanders are giving up the fourth worst amount of shots per game, and they are also bottom ten in goals allowed per game, giving up 2.84 goals per game.  The top line of Steen, Jaden Schwartz – $6,400 and Vladimir Tarasenko – $8,100 are in a good spot tonight, as long as Hitchcock doesn’t throw the lines in a blender again.

Brian Little – WPG vs NYR – $5,600

Little moving to the top line of the Jets has been a good productivity bump for him.  Playing between Patrik Laine – $7,400 and Nikolaj Ehlers – $5,200 he gets a lot of opportunities, and more looks because they demand more attention.  Little has been averaging about three shots per game since moving up, and also seeing top power play minutes.  The Rangers can score a bunch and tonight should be no different, but I think the Jets can keep pace with them and it should be a high offensive game.  Little gets a little break tonight also as Lundqvist should be getting rest and Raanta should be the one in net.  The Rangers are giving up about 30 shots on net per game and I’m expecting a little more than that tonight for the jets.

Drake Caggiula – EDM vs PHI – $3,100

It looks like it’s a #Drake night, as our own Fanvice Shane would say.  He save you some much needed salary tonight and has been performing over his salary easily.  He is seeing some good ice time, and also some power play time.  He makes for a great value play tonight against the Flyers who are giving up just over three goals per game.

Vladimir Namestnikov – TB vs VAN – $4,700

Namestnikov can save you some salary tonight against the Canucks who are a horrible road team this year and he gets to play alongside Nikita Kucherov – $7,500 on both the even strength and power play unit.  Although he hasn’t been doing much, this is a way to get good upside tonight and getting exposure to Kucherov.

Nikita Kucherov – TB vs VAN – $7,500

Kucherov is having a great year as he sits second in the league with 29 points.  Tonight is a great matchup for the Lightning, but they will probably carry a lot of ownership.  Since Steven Stamkos went down with injury Kucherov is carrying the load of the team.  Kucherov has had only one game this year that he hasn’t had at least two shots on net, and he also has two power play goals in the last three games.  Vancouver is giving up just shy of three goals per game, which is the seventh worst in the league, and they are also giving up just about 30 shots on goal per game.  Kucherov should be able to keep his point total moving up tonight.

David Pasternak – BOS vs COL – $7,100

Pasternak has been phenomenal this year averaging a point per game, and has five points in his last four games.  He has such an offensive net presence, and against Colorado it could pay off big tonight.  Colorado has been absolutely horrendous lately on the defensive side.  The aves are bottom five in every category that matters in dfs, they are giving up at least three goals per game, they allow almost 35 shots on net per game in December alone.  Boston is in a great spot tonight even on a back to back.

  • Our own Chris Wassel has seen information that the Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene might be out tonight with Illness, and if that happens tonight, it could be a huge night for Boston.

Vladimir Tarasenko – STL vs NYI – $8,100

Tarasenko ownership might be down tonight after two games of no points, that just makes me like him even more in tonight’s matchup.  The Islanders are giving up 37 shots on net in December, and they may be a small sample, they are still the third worst team in the league for the whole year giving up 34 per game.  Granted the Islanders are still middle of the pack when it comes to goals allowed per game, that tells me that the goaltending is saving their games.  that can only work for so long

Johnny Gaudreau – CGY vs ARI – $6,700

Johnny hockey has came back from injury and given the Flames a little resurgence in offense.  Since coming back Gaudreau has two multi point games in a row, and he has a great matchup tonight against the Coyotes. Arizona is the worst in the league in shots on net per game, and they are the second worst in goals against per game, giving up over three goals per game.  Johnny hockey may have more exposure tonight than usual, but he makes for a great play tonight.

Chris Kreider – NYR vs WPG – $6,100

Kreider is riding a three game point streak with four points in them three games.  He is also not afraid to block a shot or two which helps us DFS’ers.  Kreider matches up tonight against the Jets who are giving up a ton of penalties, they are the second most penalized team in the league, and their kill is in the bottom ten with only a 80% kill rate.  The Rangers power play is top ten in the league and if you give them enough chances, they will make you pay. Guess what…Kreider mans the top power play unit for the Rangers.  Also the Jets are giving up almost three goals per game.

Kris Versteeg – CGY vs ARI – $4,500

I know, I know, two Flames in a row and they play on different lines.  Versteeg has been on a roll lately with a five game point streak, and he has one multi point game in that streak.  If you want to play Versteeg as a one off, you can get some exposure to Johnny hockey on the power play unit as they both play on the top power play unit.  Versteeg is also logging some good minutes on the ice lately too, as he has been averaging about 16 minutes in his last handful of games.

Tim Schaller – BOS vs COL – $3,600

Schaller is a great punt tonight as he has moved to the second line and he is getting some productive power play time also.  With a great matchup he makes an even better play.  Schaller is averaging about 15 minutes of ice time per game.  If Colorado’s top two players are out it could make for a great night for all of Boston.

Roman Josi – NSH vs DAL – $6,600

Josi has eight points in his last eight games, and is logging big minutes.  He is also seeing the time on the top power play unit, but I don’t mind playing P.K. Suban – $6,500 either.  Dallas is giving up the most goals in the league and they are the sixth most penalized team in the league.  Not to mention that they have the fourth worst penalty kill in the league also.  I’m looking to attack the Stars tonight with the power play unit on Nashville, but they can be attacked at all angles.

Kevin Shattenkirk – STL vs NYI – $5,600

Shattenkirk gets to go to his home town tonight against the Isles, where he has fared phenomenally.  Shatty has logged points in six games straight with three goal and seven assists.  That’s a good narrative!  Also the Isles are a poor possession team and they are giving up a lot of goals,  2.84 goals against per game actually.  I like some Shat in my life tonight as my buddy FantasyShane likes to say.

Ben Hutton – VAN vs TB – $4,200

Hutton isn’t known for his offense but he has been shooting a ton.  He also has games where he can block three or four shots, and tonight he should have plenty of rubber to fend off as the Lightning should be all over the Canucks.  He has a great floor and even makes for a good cash play tonight.

Andrej Sekura – EDM vs PHI – $4,300

Sekura has five points in his last five games and has found a spot on the top power play unit.  he will save you some much needed cap for all the forwards in a great spot tonight.  Philly is allowing an average of 3.04 goals against and 32 shots on net per game. Tonight’s matchup could be a perfect game stack and the fireworks could be going all game.

Justin Schultz – PIT vs FLA – $3,700

Schultz is riding a four game point streak for the pens and he is logging some good minutes.  He is also seeing time on the second power play unit as a plus.  At $3,700 that’s great value.  If he can continue what he is doing with three shots and a couple blocked shots, he could pay off handsomely tonight against Florida, who is in a little disarray lately.

Matt Murray – PIT vs FLA – $7,800

The Pens offense has been rolling and they should be able to get it done again tonight against a Florida Panthers team that has been struggling to do anything lately.  Murray has been better on the road this year than at home and he is sporting a 1.87 Goals against and a .932 save %.

Jake Allen – STL vs NYI – $8,000

Allen has had a rough time on the road this year but he has been playing phenomenal lately.  I think the blues go into New York and steal this one tonight and I could see Allen getting the W along with enough saves to be a good play tonight.

Chad Johnson – CGY vs ARI – $7,700

If you want to go a little chalkier tonight you can go with Chad Johnson, who has been pretty decent lately winning his last four contests.  The matchup against the Coyotes is a great matchup for the Flames, and they should be able to come out with a victory.  Johnsons stats on the road have been promising with a 1.76 goals against and a .941 save  %.
