NHL Power Plays 11/8/16

Today’s slate has ten games on tap, and there are a couple teams we need to take note of for rest purposes.  There are SEVEN teams playing their fourth game in six nights and the Vancouver Canucks are playing their fifth game in seven nights.  Tonight has a potential to be a high scoring night, and hopefully we can get you on the right players. Good luck in your GPP’s tonight!

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me on Twitter @Votts_DFS

Here is a quick rundown of the teams facing off and their rest situations: (games played / # of days)

Car – 3/4

NJ – 4/6

EDM – 4/6

VAN – 5/7

NYR – 4/6

BOS – 4/6

Both teams 4/6

COL – 4/6

Sydney Crosby – PIT vs EDM – $7,800

There’s not much that needs to be said here, as Crosby has been filling the net up at will.  He’s now scored six goals in the last three games, and eight in five contests! Pittsburgh will come into tonight’s contest rested pretty well and they take on the Oilers, who will be playing their fourth game in six nights. Crosby has multi point upside tonight, as he does any other night.

Matt Duchene – COL vs ARI – $6,500

Duechene has been the only consistent contributor for the Avalanche this year, with ten points in 11 games.  He gets to take on the Coyotes tonight, who still hold the league’s worst goals against average, allowing 3.8 per game.  It’s hard to stack Avalanche players because the lines are jumbled just about every game, but I expect Colorado to get plenty of chances tonight.

Derek Stepan – NYR vs VAN – $5,900

Stepan takes on the atrocious Vancouver Canucks tonight, who are worst in the league in goals per game and actually all around play.  Their goal differential is a ridiculous -1.23.  I can see that stat moving up again tonight as they are playing their fifth game in seven nights.  Stepan is a little erratic when it comes to scoring points, but he can definitely have multiple point nights.  He has tallied ten points in 13 games this year.  Stepan is playing on the top line for the Rangers between Jimmy Vesey W – $5,400 & Rick Nash – W -$6,800.  They also play together on the second power play unit together.

Mark Scheifele – WPG vs DAL – $7,000

Scheifele is coming off two multiple point games in a row now and has looked great.  He has a total of 14 points in 13 games.  He is also averaging 21.5 minutes of ice time per game.  With Dallas being hobbled with injuries they have been giving scoring chances up at will, and also sit sixth worst in the league with a 3.17 goals against average.  Look for Scheifele to be in the mix tonight for maybe another multi point night.

Kevin Hayes – NYR vs VAN – $4,100

Hayes can save you some salary tonight to pay up for studs like Crosby. He is also a great way to get exposure to the Rangers tonight as a one off.  I see the Rangers having their way with the Canucks tonight and you will need exposure to them, especially with the Rangers leading the league in scoring per game averaging 4.5.  Hayes has 12 points in 13 games and is averaging 16.5 minutes of ice time per game.

Carl Hagelin – PIT vs EDM – $4,200

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan moved Hagelin up to the top line to try to jump start Hagelin’s scoring, and it worked last game with 3 points.  It’s amazing what playing on a top line with a guy like Sydney Crosby can do for your game, by opening up scoring chances and plenty of assist chances.  As long as Hagelin stays on this top line and is $4,200 I’ll have some exposure.

Jimmy Vesey – NYR vs VAN – $5,400

I’m sticking along with the second power play for the Rangers because I’m thinking they will be less owned than the top line.  Vesey has ten points in 13 games this year and has looked great playing alongside Derrick Stepan – $5,900 and Rick Nash – $6,800.  This might be my favorite stack tonight.

Bobby Ryan – OTT vs NSH – $5,200

Ryan has had an up and down season so far but it’s only a matter of time before he comes out with a multi-point game.  Ottawa has been mixing lines up the whole year and I actually like the lines the way they are set now, they should give Ryan more chances for points with the speed and offensive pressure they should have now. Ottawa also fires the puck a lot and Nashville is still allowing three goals per game, which is eighth worst is the league.

Matt Read – PHI vs DET – $4,000

The Flyers take on the Red Wings tonight who have a five game losing streak, and haven’t looked to great.  The flyers have scored at least three goals in their last three games.  Read gives you some nice exposure to the top line of the Flyers, where most of the scoring has been coming from playing alongside Claude Giroux – C $6,800 and Wayne Simmons W – $6,300.  Read also has 26 shot on net so far and seven points in 11 games.  He’s a good way to pay down and get some exposure to a good producing line.  Read also plays on the second power play unit.

Mitch Marner – TOR vs LAK – $5,000

Marner is coming off two games with multiple points and seems to have found a groove on that second line with Tyler Bozak – C -$4,100 and James Van Riemsdyk – W -$5,100. Marner is averaging almost three shots per game and he has ten points in 12 games.  The Kings are giving up about 3.5 power plays per game, with the sixth worst kill rate of 77.3%. The home team is 4-0 in their last four meetings, and with the Maple Leafs shooting a ton, I could see them get it done tonight also.

Patrick Laine – WPG vs DAL – $6,600

Laine has three points in his last two games and gets to take on the Stars tonight, who are giving up 3.17 goals per game.  The Jets might be getting Defensman Jacob Trouba back tonight after holding out the beginning of the season and has just signed a two year deal.  Laine doesn’t hesitate to shoot the puck averaging over 3 shots per game.  Also Dallas is giving up four power plays a game and that could reward Laine handsomely, as he plays on the top power play.

Dustin Byfuglien – WPG vs DAL – $6,100

Byfuglien started the year out slow but has picked it up with three points in his last five games.  He has a great offensive awareness and a hard shot.  Tonight he gets the beaten up Stars, who give up four power plays a game, and that’s where Byfuglien should capitalize.

Ryan McDonagh –  NY vs  VAN – $5,600

Mcdonagh has 9 points on the year, but a two game point drought.  I think that changes tonight against the Canucks.  With the fire power the rangers have, there should be plenty of chances for McDonagh to talkie a point or two.  Vancouver has been playing pretty awful and this game should be over quickly.

Shayne Gostisbehere – PHI vs DET – $5,800

Philadelphia’s power play has been hot, and the flyers have scored at least three goals in their last three games.  Gost QB’s the top power play unit and with nine points in 13 games, look for him to attack the slumping Red Wings, who have lost five in a row.

Damon Severson – NJ vs CAR – $4,300

Severson has nine points this year and can save you some salary tonight.  He takes on the Hurricanes who have a problem letting the puck find the back of the net.  The Canes are giving up the fourth worst amount of goals per game just under 3.5.  Severson also plays on the top power play unit with some good fire power with the likes of Taylor Hall -$6,500.

Anti Raanta – NYR vs VAN – $8,000

Raanta has a .930 save % filling in for Lundqvist and he is 3-0. He’s pretty much guaranteed the W tonight against the Canucks who average less than two goals a game. Don’t overthink this one, just play him.

Carey Price – MON vs BOS – $8,400

Price had dominated the Bruins in his career.  He has been phenomenal this year also, to the tune of 1.57 GAA and a .952 save %.  The Bruins offense isn’t the powerhouse it used to be and Price should get the W tonight also.
