NHL Power Plays 1/17/17
Yesterday was pure chaos for DFS slate wise. Because of the holiday, there were games spread out through the entire day and the sites made multiple slates. The Penguins and the capitals threw away the defense and goaltending idea, and ended up with a final score of 8 – 7. Tonight we get back to normal for a Tuesday with a nice nine game slate. There are three teams playing on back to backs tonight, so rest isn’t a major issue but we should take it somewhat into consideration. Let’s take a look and see if we can find you a play of two that can help you take down that big GPP tonight. Good luck! If you have any questions, reach out to me in our premium Slack chat or on Twitter @Votts_DFS. Here is the schedule for Tuesday January 17th, 2017
|Dallas*||NY Rangers||7:00 PM|
|New Jersey||Minnesota||8:00 PM|
|Ottawa||St. Louis||8:00 PM|
|Tampa Bay||Anaheim||10:00 PM|
Team playing on back to back Third game in four nights * CENTERS Tyler Bozak – TOR vs BUF – $4,800 Bozack has put together a nice string of games lately, with a five game point streak and three of the games he has multiple points, and six power play points. Bozak gets a plus matchup at home tonight as he should match up with the depth lines of the Sabres. In the seven games buffalo has played in January, they are giving up the most shots on goal out of any team in the league, with a 34.6 average. Not to mention the Sabres are also bottom ten in the penalty kill this month too. This game should be a fast game with a lot of shots on net and I want a piece of both sides of these teams. Jack Eichel – BUF @ TOR – $6,900 Buffalo decided to switch their lineup a little yesterday by putting Sam Reinhart together with Jack Eichel on the second line, and Eichel exploded for 10 shots on net and 2 goals vs the Stars. I would imagine that they will keep the lines like this again tonight against Toronto. The Leafs will have last change and coach Babcock will probably try to put the Kadri or the Nylander line up against the Eichel line, but I’m not really worried about that because the leafs make mistakes and give up a lot of shots on net. This should be a high paced game tonight and the Sabres should get more shots on net than usual. Derek Stepan – NYR vs DAL – $6,400 The Stars have been a bad road team this year giving 3.64 goals against on the road which is the worst in the NHL. Dallas has also been horrible on the penalty kill, letting in ten goals in 25 short handed opportunities. The Rangers are starting to get healthy again and Mika Zibanejad will be back tonight, but I’m going to take a wait and see approach on him and go with Stepan as he sees minutes on the top power play unit. Stepan has 11 points in his last ten games, and he has been shooting the puck consistently. If you’re feeling frisky, you could try to go the second power play line with a little stack of Pavel Buchnevich – Mika Zibanejad – Rick Nash as they play even strength and power play minutes together. Vinny Trocheck – FLA @ CGY – $6,100 Trocheck has 13 points in his last ten games, and half of the games he has multiple points. Calgary has been the seventh most generous team in the league this year giving up 2.78 goals per game at home. Florida got a little rest after a brutal week of poor scheduling cause them to play a ton of games. Calgary also likes to take penalties and Trocheck plays on the top power play unit and he’s in a good spot tonight. WINGERS Patrick Kane – CHI @ COL – $7,600 Artemi Panarin CHI @COL – $6,800 I’m putting both WINGERS here because they are in a juicy matchup and I’ll let you decided on which one you like more. Kane has been heating up and playing great hockey as he now sits 2nd in the league in points. Kane has 13 points in his last ten games and he has an astonishing twenty shots in his last three games and now the Hawks are double shifting Kaner which will just add to his shots and possibly goals and assists.. Panarin has also played great hockey lately but hasn’t shot as much as Kane, or had the ice time Kane has. Both guys are elite snipers with multiple point upside every time they step on the ice. The Avalanche are the worst home team in the league, and their defense is pretty poor also. They give a ton of shots up and their goaltending has been sub par. The Hawks should be all over the Aves tonight and I’m trying to get both guys in, but you can do whatever is best for your roster construction. Mitchell Marner – TOR vs BUF – $5,800 Marner has turned his game up lately and he has looked really good on the power play. He has 12 points in his last ten games and 6 power play points. Marner’s shot volume has been really low but he has been facilitating with assists to offset the lack of shooting. Tonight is a get right spot though for shots on net as the Sabres give up a ton of shots. Not to mention that Buffalo has the leagues worst penalty kill also. Marner sits in a great spot tonight and I’ll have some shares. Pavel Buchnevich – NYR vs DAL – $3,900 Buchnevich has missed time with an injury and he has played a total of 12 games this year, in those 12 games he has ten points. Buchnevich has played two games since coming back and he has an assist in both games. He’s got a knack for offense and he knows how to find N open man, and he has a great snap shot. Buchnevich saves you some much needed salary tonight to pay up for the stars we want. The Rangers are getting healthy and they should find some offense tonight and I’m looking towards Buchnevich. Ryan Hartman – CHI @ COL – $4,200 Hartman has seven points in his last ten games and although he has gone pointless in the last two, he has had at least three shots on net in every game in the last five. For a value play that’s all you can really ask for is shots and Hartman gets you that, plus he plays on a great line with elite talent. Hartman also see some power play time too. If you want to stay away from the masses tonight who will be using the big line of Kane and Panarin, Hartman makes a great value pivot. Brock Mcginn – CAR @ CLS – $3,300 Mcginn has been insanely hot with seven points in his last three games paying alongside Jordan Staal. The winger doesn’t see much power play time but at his price that’s ok. Something to note for tonight is that Bobrovsky has been dealing with an illness, and if he is out again tonight I will be loading up with some Canes, and Staal and Mcginn make a sweet mini stack that will go under owned. DEFENSEMAN Ryan Mcdonagh – NYR vs DAL – $5,200 Mcdonagh is the biggest part of defense for the Rangers, they lean heavily on him to produce in all situation and he logs huge minutes. Mcdonagh has eight points in his last ten games and he has Four power play points. Dallas likes giving goals up and their penalty kill is extremely weak. I could see a point or even two coming for Mcdonagh tonight. Jake Gardiner – TOR vs BUF – $4,300 Gardiner is rolling along with eight points in his last ten games and he has two power play points. He’s logging solid minutes for his price tag and he should get you a couple shots on goal and a block or so. With this high laced play he makes for a good stack with the second unit power play or you can also look to the top power play with Morgan Reilly also. Matt Dumba – MIN vs NJ – $4,200 Dumba is a good player to watch as he has a good offensive presence on the point for the Wild. He plays on the top power play line and he has two power play goals and two power play assists in his last ten games. Minnesota can pour goals in on a moments notice and when they do you are going to need to have some ownership, and Dumba makes a fine play tonight. If you have the salary you can also look to the guy that plays the opposite side of him and pretty much never someone off the ice Ryan Suter. GOALIE Devin Dubnyk – MIN vs NJ – $8,400 Dubnyk will be chalky but there I a great reason for him to be chalky. I’m not over thinking this one, he is at home and he has been the best goalie in the league with a 1.69 GAA and a .935 save %. Dubnyk should be able to get the win tonight against the Devils with his offense providing a lot of fire power.
