NBA Lineup Construction 11/21/16 (Premium)

So yesterday was a weird Sunday in the NFL, and luckily NBA kept us in good spirits by providing us a high scoring DFS night in the association. Today we get a much bigger slate with much bigger tournaments up for grabs. As we get ready for tonight, I’ll lay out some value I think is usable in tournaments and try to predict minutes so we can correctly predict fantasy production. Let’s dive in!

Opportunity Cost

As I always do, I try to see where opportunity cost lies and where we can punt tonight without sacrificing too much in our lineups. Rostering Harden seems like a great way to go tonight, but even when giving him a bump because of the matchup, he seems difficult to fit in. Considering most of the value is at the SG and SF positions, this could be the first night a Harden fade works. Of course this is never easy and is not recommended but numbers are pointing towards it. I’m looking for guys with a good amount of minutes who can outperform their minimum salary price tags. Remember, the more ‘stars and scrubs’ you go, the more upside you’re creating.

Who am I paying up for?

We’ve identified opportunity cost being the highest at the SG and SF positions, so where do I pay up? Paying up at PG and C seem like a great way to go tonight. Here are some guys I’m looking at.

Point GuardCenter
Giannis AntetokounmpoKarl-Anthony Towns
Isaiah ThomasDeAndre Jordan
John WallHassan Whiteside

These are some guys I feel are in a plus matchup with days of rest and the ability to outperform their salary. When I pair these guys with some of the value plays I’ll lay out in the next section, we’re able to maximize our point output.

Guys that make it happen

So there are a few players that are taking advantage of injury situations across the league. These usually make for the best value plays if we’re able to predict their minutes accurately. Here are a few, specifically at the SG and SF spots that I’m fitting into my lineups.

Shooting GuardSmall Forward
James EnnisGlenn Robinson III
Norman PowellNorman Powell
Jonathan GibsonJustin Anderson

As more news comes out I’ll mention more plays that are popping into my lineups. To address the Suns situation, if Chandler is back that would reduce my interest in Alan Williams considering he was seeing the backup Center minutes. I would also reduce my interest in PJ Tucker if Warren were to come back to the starting lineup tonight. Again, I’ll confirm most of these plays on the ‘Deeper Dive’ later today. You can always ask me questions on Twitter (@MLora) or in our premium slack chat throughout the day. Good luck everyone, and hope to see you atop the leaderboards. Till next time, party animals!
