NBA Thoughts – 3/30/17

Baseball approaches but we still have a few more days to make money playing NBA. Here are a few of my favorite plays on DraftKings for tonight’s 5-game slate.

Ricky Rubio, $7,800 — Yes, he’s at his most expensive price of the season, but this a premier matchup against the defenseless Lakers who run out Jordan Clarkson and DeAngelo Russell for most of the guard minutes. Neither plays a lick of defense and both can be sloppy with the basketball. Rubio should thrive in this up-and-down game and typically dominates games when he is the best guard on the court, which he certainly will be tonight. Despite shooting just 5-13 overall and 1-5 from three point land, Rubio dropped 54.25 fantasy points against these same Lakers just 3 games ago. While it is true the Wolves have nothing left to play for, expect coach Tom Thibodeau to continue to run his starters out for big minutes, especially for the first game back home after a big road trip. Rubio should easily eclipse 40 fantasy points in this game with upside for more.

Karl-Anthony Towns, $10,900 — The Lakers have absolutely not match for Towns in any facet of the game. He should be able to score in the post at will against whoever the Lakers try to defend him with, whether that be Randle, Zubac, or Nance. Towns has an incredible floor in this matchup and a great chance to reach his 60+ ceiling as well. He’s not a must play just because he is so popular, but he is nearly certain to have a strong game here, and with James Harden out of play for me because of his hurt wrist, I’ll be spending on Towns.

Rajon Rondo, $6,600 — Hopefully this pick flies a bit under the radar given Rondo’s inconsistency. But make no mistake, this is an incredible matchup for Rondo against the non-existent defense of Kyrie Irving and the Cavs, and, perhaps more importantly, the game is on National TV. It’s a bit #sad that being on National TV effects Rondo’s performance so much, but it really does. Rondo has dominated the Cavs this year averaging 43 fantasy points in just 30 minutes of play over 3 contests, and has a great chance to hit 40+ again tonight at home in this primetime matchup. Take the leap of faith with me on Rondo, he should have a big performance.

Jamal Crawford, $3,900 — Crawford is playing big minutes off the bench for the Clippers lately, and with Austin Rivers set to miss this game, he should see an even bigger bump both in minutes and in usage. The Clippers also played last night and likely want to rest their stars as much as possible for this game. Crawford should see 30+ minutes in this game and will be firing shots as he always does, against perhaps the worst defense in the league. He’s already had a lot of success against the Suns this year and will very likely keep that up tonight. He’s a great value play at this price point.

Other players I like, in no particular order: Andrew Wiggins, Kris Dunn, Gorgui Dieng, Al-Farouq Aminu, C.J. McCollum, LeBron James, Jordan Clarkson, Beno Udrih, JJ Redick, Jon Leuer, Lou Williams

Good luck out there!
