NBA Thoughts – 3/23/17

Thursday night basketball sounds a lot better than what it will be tonight. Games in San Antonio, Dallas, and Miami make up three of our five games. It’s looking dicey out there, but I’ll make the best of what we have and guide you to a profitable night. I’ll go over lineup construction and what players can help make out these lineups. Let’s get to it!

Lineup Construction

Tonight, will be tough to go stars and scrubs since there isn’t a stud to pay for. No one eclipses $9.2k on DraftKings making a ‘balanced’ night by default. If news were to break and open some value, we can fit in an extra top-end player but that’s as far as we can go. Last five game slate we had questionable value which ended up paying off. Here’s the lineup that took down the $33 main event that night.

Westbrook was the key piece he was building around, but guys like Shumpert and Jefferson were the cheapies that made it happen. Both were near minimum salary and could eclipse 25 points. It also helped that the mid-ranged options outperformed their salary as well. Without value today, it will be hard to replicate this process but we can work around that.

Guys that make it happen

Since we can’t pay up for anyone, most of these guys will be in the mid-range but are priced down enough that they could exceed their salary.

On the surface, the slate seems brutal, to the point where you just want to fill the salary cap. On Fanduel you can be contrarian by leaving a little extra money on the table and differentiating. Hollis-Jefferson on DK becomes one of the strongest plays due to the positional scarcity and the next best options being way less optimal.

As always, feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding tonight’s slate. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat leading up to lock. I hope everyone has a profitable Thursday. Till next time, party animals!
