NBA Thoughts 2/23/17

The wait is over! NBA is back and we have a nice six-game slate to kick off the second half. With all the trades going down, it’s tough to handle everything at once and in a short time frame. For more specific plays make sure to check out the Deep Dive and the Cheat Sheets. I’ll do my best to break down some of these trade situations and where we can get our value from on today’s slate. Let’s get to it!

Sacramento Kings

The biggest trade of the week was the departure of Boogie and Casspi to the Pelicans. The Kings received Tyreke Evans as their main piece and he should quickly be inserted to see a good amount of minutes with high usage. Guys like Cauley-Stein and Buddy Hield will be forced into heavy minutes as well. Between these three players, the Kings provide all the value you need to roster the studs you want on tonight’s slate. It also helps that Evans and Cauley-Stein are fantasy point per minute players which should have an easy time exceeding their salary. Both will be staples of my lineups tonight.

New Orleans Pelicans

Boogie sharing the court with another high-usage player will be the biggest question for this team. How will Boogie and AD complement each other? The coaching staff has been saying they complement each other well but that’s tough to see as they have a very similar skill set. I expect both of them to take a slight hit in their production and come down to be $10k players. E’Twaun Moore and Solomin Hill look like they will also be locked into heavy minutes due to the lack of depth, so these guys can make intriguing DFS options as long as they are minimum salary. The backup PG minutes will go to Tim Frazier who saw plenty of minutes earlier on in the season and produced fairly well. If he gets 20+ minutes off the bench, he can also be a viable value option as long as he stays near minimum salary.

Guys that make it happen

I’ll just quickly list the order in which I like these guys and this will be for both sites.

Value Options
Tyreke Evans
E’Twaun Moore
Willie Cauley-Stein
Buddy Hield
Tim Frazier

As always, feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat discussing the slate leading up to lock. It’s great to have NBA back and I hope you all have a profitable Thursday. Till next time, party animals!
