NBA Thoughts 1/2/17

Let’s start off 2017 with profitable Monday night. This is one of the better slates in the upcoming weeks as we have top players facing off against each other in what could be high scoring affairs. Even with these marquee matchups, it doesn’t look like a night where we can just lock in the top names and figure out the rest. Let’s dive in and see which players are underpriced and make great plays for tonight’s slate.

Top-Tier Players

Anthony Davis – Although the spread is a little alarming, Anthony Davis has the ability to do work against an interior that isn’t all that imposing defensively. He also comes at a discount from Harden and Westbrook. With the news coming out of Charlotte most players will be punting this position making the ownership on Davis lower than it should be.

Kevin Love – On the opposite side of Anthony Davis, Kevin Love also draws a plus matchup against New Orleans. If Kyrie ends up sitting another one, it also bumps the outlook for Love who should have a field day against this front court. Because of matchups, there’s also a possibility that he could see some Terrence Jones defense which shouldn’t worry him. Either way Love is in a great spot to outperform his salary, especially if Kyrie sits.

Kevin Durant – He’s been so consistent this year and it feels like the numbers haven’t fallen one but since his OKC days. He’ll draw another plus matchup here and isn’t at the $10k mark on DraftKings yet. This is the highest total game by far so having a piece of this game is pretty wise. Durant makes for a great play considering his rotation and that in a blowout he should see a little more run than others. If this happens to stay close, Durant could make a run for the top fantasy scorer of the night.

I find my lineups containing a combination of these guys. Although it seems like we have plenty of value opening up, it’s still hard to fit in the top guys like Harden, Westbrook, and Davis. The $7.5-$9k range seems pretty strong and that’s where I’m gravitating to if I want to pay up. It seems like more of a balanced lineup day where we build a solid floor and fill our lineups with underpriced guys for the upside.
