NBA Bargains 2/15/17
Happy Wednesday! Let us look at the games from this pre-AS Break mega-14-game slate and find the bargain plays that make our lineups hit the top of the standings. I am targeting at/below 10K on Fantasy Draft, 5.5K on FanDuel and 5K on DraftKings. LET’S DO THIS!
NOTE: Stay tuned to FanVice for updates and analysis of the breaking news in regards to the values that open up throughout the evening leading up to lineup lock.
T.J. McConnell – PHI at BOS – $5,600 (FD), $5,100 (DK), $10,100 (FDRAFT) – McConnell is fifth in the NBA in touches per game over the last five games, with 92. That is just behind James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Jrue Holiday for touches. That does not guarantee fantasy goodness, but with McConnell’s status in the top 10 assist rate over the last five games as well, there is a strong correlation there. He is still underpriced.
Austin Rivers – LAC vs. ATL – $5,200 (FD), $5,100 (DK), $10,100 (FDRAFT) – Similarly, there is Rivers, who hosts the leaky Hawks, who will likely be without defensive linchpin Thabo Sefolosha again tonight (questionable). Rivers has maintained low 20% usage rate, has a touches per game rate equal to Kyle Lowry and Isaiah Thomas over the last five games, and scorched the Hawks for 38.60 FanDuel points the last time these two clashed.
Jamal Crawford – LAC vs. ATL – $4,900 (FD), $4,800 (DK), $9,500 (FDRAFT) – Crawford his 20s minutes, mid 20s raw usage and the Hawks woeful attempts at defense on the wing right now, bring the former Hawk firmly into focus here as the Lou Williams bench play of the night here (except for Lou himself, of course, against PHX).
Nick Young – LAL at PHX – $4,600 (FD), $4,600 (DK), $9,100 (FDRAFT) – Young continues to draw the start and play 28-30 minutes a night, giving him the minutes floor, at his near 20% raw usage rate, to get to value every night. It is a plus matchup against the Suns and Young could snag some defensive goodies from Devin Booker as well.
Aaron Gordon – ORL vs. SAS – $4,500 (FD), $4,600 (DK), $9,100 (FDRAFT) – It is not a tasty matchup, being against San Antonio, but the Spurs are on the road, this is the game before the AS break, so Gordon could see some David Lee minutes defensively, which would be a plus for Gordon. The Magic have traded Serge Ibaka, so it should mean a minutes boost to Gordon, going between the SF/PF positions.
Matt Barnes – SAC at LAL – $5,100 (FD), $5,100 (DK), $10,100 (FDRAFT) – Cash game minutes safety as Barnes has used the Ty Lawson injury, on top of the Rudy Gay/Omri Casspi injuries, to maintain a steady supply of 30+ minute efforts. Barnes did not start against the Lakers Tuesday night, but could very well get the call to match up with Kevin Durant, who Barnes helped slow considerably in the last effort, one in which Barnes also scored 37+ DK points.
Channing Frye – CLE vs. IND – $5,000 (FD), $5,000 (DK), $9,800 (FDRAFT) – Folks are going to chase that 40 burger Frye just posted, but if you want to join the pack in doing so, please make sure that the Cavaliers are not resting LeBron James, as he is the one that unlocks the upside in Frye’s fantasy point total. It is a home game, so there is hope that the Cavs end on a high note with all the starters playing, but watch the news, just in case,
Kyle O’Quinn – NYK at OKC – $4,400 (FD – C), $4,300 (DK), $8,400 (FDRAFT) – With Joakim Noah reportedly out until after the AS break, the Knicks will continue to carve up the minutes between Willy Hernangomez and O’Quinn, who has posted 38.75, 35 and 20.75 in his last three games, in 25, 22 and 21 minutes. It is a high total here (218) and should be played with some pace, as both teams are in the top half of that category over the last five games.
Kelly Olynyk – BOS vs. PHI – $4,600 (FD), $4,300 (DK), $8,500 (FDRAFT) – Getting consistent mid-20s minutes and mid 20s raw usage as well over the last six games, where he has scored 20.75, 22.50, 24, 24.25, 40.75 and 26.25 DK points.
Willy Hernangomez – NYK at OKC – $5,700 (FD), $5,000 (DK), $9,800 (FDRAFT) – Great matchup here, as Hernangomez has been getting solid minutes with Noah out, with 31, 25, 35, 24, 20, 8 and 29 over his last six games. The blip in that chain indicates why he is not cash game ready, but the upside is there with those minutes, scoring over a fantasy point per minute.
Good luck, players! – JW
I am a promoter at DraftKings and am also an avid fan and user (my username is jaywalker72) and may sometimes play on my personal account in the games that I offer advice on. Although I have expressed my personal view on the games and strategies above, they do not necessarily reflect the view(s) of DraftKings and I may also deploy different players and strategies than what I recommend above.
