NBA Bargains 2/1/17
Big Wednesday! Let us look at the games from this huge 12-game slate and find the bargain plays that make our lineups hit the top of the standings. I am going to keep these under the $6,000 line for FanDuel (FD) and DraftKings (DK). Let’s go!
NOTE: Stay tuned to FanVice for updates and analysis of the breaking news in regards to the values that open up throughout the evening leading up to lineup lock. Tune into FanVice Live tonight for 5:00pm – Deeper Dive – Loughy/DraftCheat/Manny Lora and 6:15pm – Final Countdown – Fast Eddie Fear and Cedric Phillips
Isaiah Whitehead – BKN vs. NYK – Whitehead and Spencer Dinwiddie are splitting the minutes at PG, but it is Whitehead that is doing more with his time. In Miami Monday night, Whitehead had a higher raw usage rate, higher assist rate and a better net rating that Dinwiddie, and played at a faster pace as well. Against the defensively poor Knicks and priced at $4,000 on FD, Whitehead is a very intriguing play in tourneys.
Brandon Jennings – NYK at BKN – Jennings, without Derrick Rose, is a ball hog’s ball hog. In the losing effort last night, Jennings had a James Harden-esque 96 touches and 26% raw usage. He touched the ball twice as much as Carmelo Anthony and there is nobody to push Jennings as long as Rose is out. In one of the highest totals of the night (223 as of this writing), Jennings can still get the 33-34 FD points he needs to make tourney value, but is a good cash game play anyway.
Norman Powell – TOR at BOS – When DeRozan sits, Norm Powell is the man. For the fourth time in five games, DeRozan sat and for the fourth time in five games, Powell delivered. He scored 32.30 FD points, getting nearly 22% raw usage in his 40 minutes of work. Avery Bradley may be back for this one and that would dampen enthusiasm somewhat, but Bradley could get assigned to Lowry, which would put Isaiah Thomas on Powell and make Powell a primary play.
Wesley Matthews – DAL vs. PHI – Since returning from a 2-game absence, Matthews has posted back to back 30+ fantasy point games. He is still only $4,700 on DK, where he gets the ½ point bonus for threes and has a plus matchup at home against the 76ers.
P.J. Tucker – PHX vs. LAC – He was ejected in the last game, so do not let the lower minute total fool you. Tucker is going to get 30-32 minutes, even if the Clippers continue to roll out three guards – they will use Tucker on Blake Griffin and Marquese Chriss’ minutes will suffer. With that many minutes, in a 220.5 game total and a $4,200 DK price and $4,500, a 25-28 fantasy point game will make solid value.
Bojan Bogdanovic – BKN vs. NYK – Two variables for Bojan – will he play minutes is the first, and he got 31 the last time out, hopefully meaning he will get the similar call against the Knicks, which is a great matchup. The second is if the volume shooter will make shots. Harder to tell there, but he will get his attempts, as he regularly averages 23% raw usage when he is on the floor.
Domantas Sabonis – OKC vs. CHI – Clearly, Billy Donovan is liking Sabonis filling in for Enes Kanter. Sabonis has played 25 and 35 minutes the last two nights, firing up 20+% raw usage in both games, resulting in solid 48.25 DK points over those two games. His price is just $3,300 on DK and the minimum $3,500 on FD.
Spencer Hawes – CHA at GSW – Hawes is PF eligible on DK, where he is also $4,600. His last game against the Warriors, in case you wondered about his fit in this game, was a 36.75 DK point special in 29 minutes of play.
Joakim Noah – NYK at BKN – Hear me out. You are going to want to run, nay, sprint, after Guillermo Hernangomez and/or Kyle O’Quinn tomorrow. I will not blame you if you do so. This is a game against the Brooklyn Nets and the total is a frisky 223. However…Noah usually gets minutes against centers like Brook Lopez and he only played 15 minutes in last night’s game. Noah is $3,600 on DK and can put up 35-40 DK points in a half a game such as this. Also, I will remind that Hernangomez has had huge games in the past, only to find himself ignored, such as the 3.12 minutes he played just two games ago in Atlanta after two fabulous games against the Pacers and Mavericks on the road. Just sayin’.
Jonas Valanciunas – TOR at BOS – Jonas, earlier this season, hung 50.75 on the Celtics, eviscerating them for 23 rebounds and 18 points in only 27 minutes. He is playing well, had 25.5% raw usage against New Orleans last night, in a 32 minute effort in which he scored 20 and grabbed 12 rebounds. He is very reasonably priced at $5,400 on DK and $5,800 on FD.
Good luck, players! – JW
