NBA Bargains 1/28/17
Tonight we have a seven game set tipping off at 7pm ET with several turbo slates on the bigger DFS sites. Four games boast projected totals of 217+ so there should be plenty of fantasy goodness to go around.
As always, more information will be released by the teams closer to tip-off, but this should give us plenty of discounted options to work with in the meantime. Don’t forget to tune in for the FinalCountdown on FanVice Live tonight for all of your last minute news and advice until the first tipoff.
If you have any questions you can reach me on Twitter @EmacDFS or in the FanVice.com premium Slack channel.
Jameer Nelson – DEN at PHX – There is a high likelihood that Emmanuel Mudiay and his sore back will be sitting out this contest tonight, which is a rematch from Thursday night. Nelson is a fine option at his FanDuel price point of $4,700 in all formats, but his bump to $5,300 on DraftKings and $10,500 have in only in tournament consideration for the full-slate. For the late game sets, he is in play on all sites.
Darren Collison – SAC at CHA – Collison has posted back-to-back dandies, though do keep in mind both were overtime affairs with a victory on Wednesday in Cleveland and a three point loss last night against Indiana in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. This is also the sixth straight road game for the Kings who have two more before heading back to Sacramento. Even with all of these caveats, this is a solid setup for both Collision and teammate Ty Lawson since the bench is pretty thin at this point with the loss of Rudy Gay, the ineffectiveness of Ben McLemore and Matt Barnes playing like a soon-to-be 37 year old veteran in his fourteenth NBA season.
Will Barton and Gary Harris – DEN at PHX – With Emmanuel Mudiay most likely out and Nikola Jokic already ruled out, the Nuggets are going to play small ball for most of the game tonight. Well, for any of the minutes when Jusuf Nurkic is not on the court. This should help out Barton and Harris who will be asked to shoulder more of the scoring burden and with this game projected to have 230 points, it is one we will want multiple players from.
Sean Kilpatrick and Randy Foye – BKN at MIN – Stay tuned to the news coming from the Nets Twitter feed because they could continue playing games and “resting” a different batch of players tonight (last night it was Brook Lopez, Trevor Booker and Caris LeVert) depending on the whims of their leadership.
Caris LeVert, Bojan Bogdanovic and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson – see above.
T.J. Warren and P.J. Tucker – PHX vs DEN – As previously discussed, with Denver likely to be playing small for the majority of this game, the Suns wing players are solid options in all formats at a very friendly price point across the industry.
Shabazz Muhammad – MIN vs BKN – Nobody, and I really do mean nobody, plays Shabazz Muhammad without some sort of injury news. This is a game where the Timberwolves are health home favorites and one where we could see some of the reserves get extra minutes if they can put away the Nets early. Just keep in mind that scoring is the key to Shabazz’ fantasy production as he has just 15 assists, 11 steals and three blocked shots through 42 games played. He is knocking down three-pointers at a career high 42.6% clip so he has some hidden value on sites that reward a bonus for makes from downtown.
Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur – DEN at PHX – With Faried’s inconsistent playing time and production there is a wide range of risk/reward outcomes, but with Jusuf Nurkic the lone BIG tonight for the Nuggets, he should see more run. Arthur is a risk because of his knees, but he does have 20+ fantasy point upside and he can be considered if you are in search of an extreme discount option.
Trevor Booker – BKN at MIN – Booker got a sick day on Friday, so as long as he is a full go (and it wasn’t that hardcore flu that has been plaguing the NBA for the last month), he is very much in play tonight in a matchup where Brook Lopez is going to need all the help he can get on the boards facing Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng.
Derrick Favors – UTA vs MEM – While it is not a great matchup, the Jazz will need Favors to bang in the paint with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies may be a little tired as this is their third game in four days and they lost a heartbreaker in Portland last night 112 to 109 in a spirited game with their key players logging heavy minutes (Gasol 40, Randolph 31, Mike Conley 36 and Tony Allen 35).
Kosta Koufos – SAC at CHA – This is a deep, deep, deep tournament play, but if DeMarcus Cousins gets into foul trouble or technical trouble if he is crabby after back-to-back overtime games, Koufos could see a couple extra turns in the rotation tonight. Tournament differentiation play only.
Jusuf Nurkic – DEN at PHO – Nurkic is going to be a popular play with Nikola Jokic out, just know that he can be infuriating with his foul issues and that letting others deal with the risk while looking for a value option at another position is a savvy way to move away from the herd in tournaments.
