NBA Bargains –12/23/16
With a robust fourteen games going tonight (the NBA takes Christmas Eve off before playing their five featured Christmas Day games) we should see some crazy things happen. Remember to play within your means as game sets of this size can be wildly unpredictable.
As always, more information will be released by the teams closer to tip-off, but this should give us plenty of discounted options to work with in the meantime.
If you have any questions you can reach me on Twitter @EmacDFS or in the FanVice.com premium Slack channel.
Patty Mills – SAS at POR – This one is pretty straightforward with Tony Parker already announced as getting Friday off in preparation for the Spurs Christmas Day game against the Chicago Bulls. The Portland Trailblazers backcourt is one again a defensive mess and this is a fine time to employ Mills who should be in the mix for a solid 25 fantasy points in this matchup.
Ricky Rubio – MIN vs SAC – Rubio is firmly in play on FanDuel in this home matchup against the Phoenix Suns tonight at a sub-$6k price point. Over his last four meetings with Phoenix, he has averaged 33.0mpg, 12.3ppg, 3.5rpg, 11.0apg and 3.5spg for a solid 35.7 FanDuel point average.
Austin Rivers – LAC vs DAL – Keep an eye on the news, but there is a good chance that Coach Doc Rivers gives Chris Paul the night off after he suffered a strained hamstring last night and the team already without the services of Blake Griffin for at least a month. While the coach’s son will be a popular play, he is a strong one and it is okay to follow the crowd in the event CP3 is out tonight.
Gary Harris – DET vs ATL – Until he is in the mid-$5k range on FanDuel and DraftKings, he is a free square.
Nick Young – LAL at ORL – This is a decent matchup for Swaggy P who has actually been “trustworthy” this season with steady performances. With the Lakers short on BIGs tonight, they will likely play small ball which secures Young’s role.
Jamal Crawford and J.J. Redick – LAC vs DAL – Part of the trickledown effect of the Chris Paul injury will increase the minutes and shot attempts for this duo with Jamal also serving as a backup ball handler tonight. Raymond Felton should also be in the mix and actually could be in the starting lineup if CP3 is sidelined.
Kent Bazemore – ATL at DEN – FanDuel has some soft pricing, but $4,500 for Kent Bazemore is ridiculous. Dwight Howard has already been ruled out, so that will leave a production void that needs to be filled.
Luol Deng – LAL at ORL – Deng should continue to see big minutes a power forward with Julius Randle back home for the birth of his first child. This is the third game in four nights for the Lakers, but it is a tantalizing matchup and an easy way to fill the small forward spot if you are not looking to spend tonight.
Justise Winslow – MIA vs NOP – Miami is just so thin right now that Winslow is in line for even more minutes than usual, despite recently returning from an injury himself.
Thomas Robinson – LAL at ORL – If Julius Randle is confirmed out again (and he should be) T-Rob is a fine discount option. Just keep in mind that the 18 minutes he saw last night is appropriate and he should again flirt with a double double against the Orlando Magic frontcourt if he can get at least half of his minutes against Nikola Vucevic.
Montrezl Harrell – HOU at MEM – He should be locked in for 25 minutes as the Rockets will need his size to help deal with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph in the absence of Clint Capela. Nene Hilario will also be in the mix which keeps Harrell’s upside in check and makes him a better “cash game” option on this large game set.
Marvin Williams – CHA vs CHI – Williams has been outstanding with 20+ fantasy points in four of his last five games and the Hornets will need to employ his services tonight against the Bulls frontcourt.
Marreese Speights – LAC vs DAL – Gimme some Mo’ tonight! Speights is in play on the late slates in this matchup with the Dallas Mavericks. He will likely see around 18-20 minutes and is racking up fantasy points at nearly 1.3 per minute in his recent stretch of games. His upside can be unleashed if the Clippers can build an early lead, which is possible even if Chris Paul is out of commission.
Tristan Thompson – CLE vs BKN – Thompson should feast in this game against Brook Lopez who is still dealing with his violently allergic reaction to rebounding.
Bismack Biyombo – ORL vs LAL – This is a fine matchup for Biyombo as the Lakers frontcourt is woeful at rebounding when Julius Randle is off the court. Over his last seven games Double B is averaging 30.1mpg, 8.1ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.6apg and 2.7 combined blocks steals for a healthy 25 fantasy points. He has double double upside in this matchup which should get him into the mid-30 fantasy point range tonight.
Timofey Mozgov – LAL at ORL – On the other side of the court we have Timofey Mozgov who should see 25 minutes in this matchup and be a threat for 8-9x his current rock bottom price tag across the industry.
