Now let’s get down to business with some insight from DraftCheat!

Tonight on FantasyDraft, we have the largest MLB tournament of the season with the $100,000 Walk Off. While the $55 is a little higher than the usual Friday marquee tournament entry fee, hopefully you all have been stocking up on tickets in the many qualifiers. We have 26 teams in action which provides us with many different strategies to employ. Here are a few of my top plays that I am focusing on for tournaments.

Starting Pitchers

Jordan Montgomery – NYY vs MIL – $12,800 – Pitching is incredible tonight with quality options in the upper, mid, and bottom pricing range. Yankees’ LHP Jordan Montgomery has been among the most impressive young pitchers in baseball this season and could even see his results improve over the second half of the season given how many bats he misses and his ability to get ahead of hitters. It is not an easy matchup tonight against a powerful Brewers team in Yankee Stadium, but the risk is already baked into Montgomery’s price tag of $12,800.

Sean Manaea – OAK at SEA – $12,800 – Tonight I will be spending down on pitching with these two uber-talented young left-handers. Manaea, like Montgomery, has a tough matchup heading into Seattle to face an offense that could give him trouble. But, also like Montgomery, Sean Manaea is an extremely good pitcher who has an arsenal more similar to Chris Sale than any other pitcher in baseball. His price tag of $12,800 is simply FAR too cheap for the skill set he brings to the table

Infield

Nolan Arenado – COL vs CHW – $10,000 – What an incredible spot for Nolan Arenado tonight against White Sox’ LHP Derek Holland who has given up home runs to right-handed hitters at as high a clip as any pitcher in baseball over the last couple of seasons. It will be warm in Coors Field tonight and the ball of course will be jumping, Arenado is clearly the #1 overall hitter on the board given the matchup, his talent, and the hitting conditions in Coors Field.

Jose Ramirez – CLE vs DET – $9,600 – The Indians’ infielder has been an absolute stud this season and today gets a very nice matchup against Jordan Zimmermann, whose best days are long since behind him and who gives up a ton of hard contact and fly balls to left-handed hitters.

Ramirez is on fire right now and should thrive both against Zimmermann and whatever gas cans Detroit brings out of the bullpen in relief. Ramirez is a top option that comes at a slight discount to some of the more expensive bats.

Outfield

Cameron Maybin – LAA at TEX – $8,100 – One of my absolute favorite plays on the entire slate tonight is Angels’ outfielder Cameron Maybin who will be leading off in the Texas heat tonight against Cole Hamels. Hamels has really struggled this season, has historically been bad when pitching in Arlington, and struggles to hold runners on base.

Maybin has been swinging a good stick, been running wild on the base paths, and of course gets the massive park upgrade from Angels Stadium to Arlington. He’ll find his way on to most of my rosters this evening.

Aaron Judge – NYY vs MIL – $10,800 – What more can we say about this guy? He has been absolutely incredible and is showing no signs of slowing down. It will be warm with favorable winds at Yankee Stadium today and Judge will benefit from a matchup against Junior Guerra who has really struggled this season to the tune of 3.0 HR/9 to right-handed hitters on the season.

This is a perfect matchup for Judge who has the top home run projection on the night outside of possibly Nolan Arenado.

Good luck out there tonight! ~ DraftCheat
