Now let’s get down to business with some insight from DraftCheat!
Tonight on FantasyDraft, we have a marquee $30,000 Home Run with a reasonable $25 entry fee and a 30 entry limit so we will not see the field overrun by anyone one player with deep pockets. All 30 teams are in action, so here are some of the players I am eyeing for my tournament lineups.
Danny Duffy, Kansas City Royals, $16,800 — It has been a rough start to the season for Royals’ left-hander Danny Duffy, who has lost a couple of ticks on his fastball and has seen his strikeout rate decline in a big way. However, after digging a bit further into the numbers, I actually think Duffy will be OK. He is still getting a good amount of whiffs and most importantly he has had a run of ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL matchups in terms of teams that just do not strike out against left-handed pitchers.
Today, he gets the Orioles at home, and the Orioles have the 5th highest strikeout percentage against LHP and a below average offense overall vs. LHP. I think we may finally see a big outing from Duffy tonight.
Johnny Cueto, San Francisco Giants, $24,600 — I’m generally not the biggest Johnny Cueto fan, and this price tag is pretty outrageous, but pitching is very thin today so I am willing to “pay up” and find value bats to fill out my lineup. The Giants’ right-hander has looked sharp this season, pounding the strike zone and getting more swinging strikes than he has in past years. It’s an average matchup against the Reds, but in AT&T Park, he is by far the safest option on the board and I’m willing to pay this price tag.
Jed Lowrie, Oakland A’s, $6,800 — Jed Lowrie, somewhat shockingly, is hammering baseballs this year particularly from the left side of the plate where he sports a whopping .380 wOBA and .204 Isolated Slugging percentage. He gets a dream matchup tonight going up against Andrew Cashner in a hitter’s park in Arlington, Texas. Lowrie, assuming he’s hitting near the top of the order (should be second) makes for one of the best value plays on Fantasy Draft tonight.
Yonder Alonso, Oakland A’s, $7,500 — Yonder Alonso made some major swing changes in the offseason and the results have been outstanding. Alonso has an amazing .456 wOBA vs. righties on the year and of course gets the same matchup and ballpark bump as Jed Lowrie, written up above. Get in on the A’s tonight.
David Peralta, Arizona Diamondbacks, $7,200 — The Diamondbacks are in a great situation against Pirates’ rookie right-hander Tyler Glasnow who has severe command problems and also very much struggles to hold runners on base. Peralta has a great matchup here both at the plate and on the base paths, and is very affordable as well. Plug him in as a standalone D-Back or stack this team up as they should have a field day against Glasnow in the desert tonight.
Jay Bruce, New York Mets, $8,800 — Bruce gets the benefit of taking on Matt Garza in a home run park in Milwaukee, and Garza has long had home run issues, particularly against left-handed hitters. Bruce is on fire this season and is smashing baseballs, and he should have no trouble keeping it going in this matchup. Do not be scared off by this elevated price tag, Bruce is one of the highest upside plays on the slate.
Good luck out there tonight! ~ DraftCheat
