MLB Thoughts 10/11/16

I wish we had playoff baseball all year around. These have been some of the best games I’ve ever seen. If umpires don’t ruin another Dodgers game I think we could be looking at a game five in that series, while a game five already seems like a solid possibility in the Giants/Cubs series. Let’s look at today’s starters!

The talk of the day is whether to use Kershaw in this game or in a winner-take-all game five. Essentially, you have to maximize your odds of winning both games not just one, and in a game where the Nationals are using a Ross/Lopez combo, it would make sense to use your best combo as well. In the scenario we’ll see today, Kershaw will have the clear edge over the duo, but Scherzer will have the edge over whichever combo the Dodgers decide to roll out in game five. If I have to choose, I would use my talented young arms in tonight’s game, while using Kershaw on the road in game five. Either way, this should make for some interesting baseball and I’ll be tuning in.

SF vs. CHC

This was one of the best game I’ve seen in a while and had me on the edge of my seat the entire night. Tonight we get two above average pitchers with the ability to have meaningful games for both squads. Although the Cubs are favored in this one, I always side with the home pitcher in what could be the Giants last game of their season. I’d also give an edge to the San Francisco pitching rotation, who has held this Cubs offense in check for the most part. Most of their RBI’s have come via their pitchers in this series. Rizzo is in a major slump and without him this offense is one dimensional. If the Cubs hitters don’t start producing, I can see the Giants forcing a game five where Bumgarner would get a second shot at the Cubbies. Till next time, party animals!
