Starting Nine 9/12/17

The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Corey Kluber – Every time he’s on the mound he’s the top option. We saw what Carrasco was able to do against this team and Kluber should do the same if not better. He has elite numbers against both sides of the plate and is making a strong case for the Cy Young award this year. Detroit is running out mediocre lineups the rest of the season and this should be no match for them. I love that Kluber should have run support behind him and that he’s playing at home. The winning streak continue today and Kluber is my SP1 in all game types tonight.

Eduardo Rodriguez – I need a cheapie to pair with Kluber and Rodriguez fits that bill. He’s $6,700 on DraftKings and he faces an Athletics team which is underwhelming to say the least. This actually profiles as a great matchup for Rodriguez who should face a lineup full of right-handed hitters. E-Rod has actually been much better against righties this season limiting them to a .307 wOBA while striking them out at a 26% clip. The more righties the better and that seems like the case today for Rodriguez. I expect the Red Sox to get to Manaea tonight as well so I love that Rodriguez will have run support. He’s by far my favorite SP2 option on the slate and unless things change drastically by lock, he will be in the majority of my lineups.

Johnny Cueto – WHAT THE?! We have reached the day where Johnny Cueto is $7,300 on DraftKings. Lol. Everyone hates this guy for some reason but I can assure you he’s not a $7,300 pitcher. This is a tough matchup so I don’t have him higher but pitching in AT&T is always a plus. This will be lineup dependent as it’s hard to trust what Roberts will roll out from night to night, but this is a very attractive price tag. Pitching in Coors last time out he was able to rack up 23.05 fantasy points and that could be the start of a nice run. Cueto has no true splits so the amount of lefties and righties doesn’t really affect his outlook. I like him as a cheap option in tournaments as a pitcher with upside pitching in a good park. I’ll confirm this play later on the Deeper Dive or once we get a lineup. This is a high risk, high reward play in GPPs.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
