Starting Nine 8/30/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Dallas Keuchel – Round two! Fiers let down many yesterday and was a huge difference in tournaments. Tonight, Keuchel gets the task of going against the Rangers who are much worse against lefties. They have three hitters in the projected lineup with 30% strikeout rates or higher and two more with 20%. This is a great spot for Keuchel who has been sharp recently and gets to pitch in a pitcher’s park due to Hurricane Harvey. There aren’t many pitchers I want to pay up for today making Harvey an intriguing option.
Parker Bridwell – At this point I’m just streaming pitchers against this Oakland team. They are ice cold at the plate, have a ton of strikeouts in their lineup, and are playing in one of the better pitcher’s parks in baseball. Bridwell has limited righties to a .277 wOBA on the season and a .122 ISO. It’s safe to say the right-handed power Oakland has from guys like Davis, Healy, and Chapman won’t be displayed tonight. He isn’t a strikeout pitcher which caps his upside to an extent, but if he can go deep into the game and be in line for the win, I think he can pay off his salary. He’s a risky tournament play, but one that can pay off greatly.
Robbie Ray – Ray returned right where he left off. He struck out nine hitters in his five innings and picked up a win, good enough for 28.25 DK points. Tonight the matchup is a lot tougher, but the lineups the Dodgers have been putting out haven’t been all that imposing. Ray has been the type to rise up to tough matchups, and I feel no one will own him today. People will see his home/road splits, see the dodgers, and notice it isn’t the best strikeout matchup, but in tournaments that’s exactly what I want. I won’t go heavy on Ray as this is a risky play, but if he’s not owned at all, I’ll have a decent amount. I also think he should be firmly in line for a win here again. Tournaments only.
Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
