Starting Nine 7/5/17

The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Trevor Bauer – I think Trevor Bauer has been the pitcher I’ve recommended the most throughout the season. He’s the perfect player for large field tournaments. Bauer will strikeout ten and go seven innings, or give up ten runs and can’t get passed the third. Today he gets one of the best matchups in baseball. The Padres were horrible yesterday against Kluber and if it wasn’t for their outstanding pitching, they would’ve lost convincingly. Bauer has been a lot better the last four starts and he’s doing it with much better command, issuing one walk in each of his last two games. If he can attack the zone against this Padres team and not walk hitters, he should be in for another solid game. It’s also worth noting he still hasn’t gone up in price, silly DraftKings.

Alex Wood – I assume these two pitchers will have the majority of the ownership. Alex Wood has been a top three pitcher in baseball this season with a perfect 9-0 record. Arizona looked lost yesterday against Kershaw who took a no-hitter into the 7th, and although it’ll be hard for Wood to top that, he can deliver a great performance. The problem with Wood, if any, has been Roberts tendency to take him out early, but he’s pitched 98 and 94 pitches his last two games. If Alex Wood gets the same run in this game, there is no way he shouldn’t be in contention for the top score of the night. I like him a little more for cash games considering his price, but I will have shares in tournaments as well.

Gerrit Cole – The tournament play of the night is Gerrit Cole. This Pirates pitching staff has dominated the Phillies early in this series and that should continue tonight. Taillon pitched a phenomenal game yesterday and Cole, whose more efficient, could do even better. I love Cole’s price tag at $8,700 on DraftKings where he has the ability to outperform and has some room for error. For me, he’s a pitcher who brings a nice floor but in good matchups has the stuff to provide upside. I’ll have as much of Cole as I can as a means of differentiation and a way to afford expensive bats across my lineups.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
