Starting Nine 7/17/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Lance McCullers – I’ll start off by saying this is a terrible pitching slate. Lance McCullers offers the highest floor due to his raw talent, but I can also say this isn’t the best matchup. He’s actually been much better at home throughout his short career which gives me a sense of security, and his nasty curveball could help him breeze through this Mariners lineup. McCullers has almost a 30% strikeout rate against both sides of the plate, while limiting both sides to well below-average wOBA’s. I assume he will be popular as he is the best pitcher going today, but with how bad the slate it, I rather take my points and move on.
Matt Moore – I have no idea where I’m going with my next two picks, I’m just picking out of a hat. The first guy to come out was this dweeb. Matt Moore has been awful this season and is on pace to have his worst season in the majors. He has the favorable task of going against a top-five offense in the league, so let’s play him? Moore is cheap, in the best pitcher’s park in the league, and making most of these switch hitters bat from their weaker side? I can’t even come up with reasons why I would play this bobo. Yolo!
Zack Wheeler – With all the righties in this Cardinals lineup, Wheeler could perform well at home here. He just faced this team in his last outing where he did well going six innings while allowing just two runs. I like him much better at home where he’s been slightly better this season. I’m just trusting his raw talent as he is a hard thrower with pretty decent breaking stuff and could get some run support behind him. It’s not a good slate for pitching and I’m aiming for pitchers who can stay in the positive, Wheeler could definitely do that tonight.
