Starting Nine 6/8/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
John Lester – Lester is coming off an unlucky start against the Cardinals who barely got one ball out of the infield to produce their only runs against him. He’s been pitching better than his numbers indicate and now gets a decent matchup against the Rockies. I love targeting the Rockies outside of Coors Field and especially with lefties. The Rockies are still in the top 10 when it comes to strikeouts against lefties. Lester should face a good amount of right-handed hitters today but he’s been striking them out at 23% on the season. Vegas also agrees as they have the Cubs as huge favorites today.
Jake Odorizzi – This Tampa pitching staff has dominated the White Sox in this series and Odorizzi has a chance to finish them off. Odorizzi has dominated right-handed hitters this season, limiting them to a .298 wOBA which is well below league-average. The problem for Odorizzi has been the long ball. He’s allowed tons of power to righties, but this White Sox team isn’t known for their power (25th in HR’s vs. RP). Odorizzi has everything going for him tonight and Vegas agrees as they have the White Sox tied for the lowest total on the slate. I love Odorizzi today for all game types.
David Price – It might be too early to tell, but Price looks pretty close to last years form, at least through two starts. He just dominated the Orioles through seven innings, picking up seven strikeouts and the win. He’ll face a Yankee team that looked good in yesterday’s game but struggled against another lefty in Pomeranz the game before. If Price keeps pitching how he did last game, he should cruise through this Yankee lineup. It’s also worth noting that because of his matchup and the park he’ll be pitching in, not many will be on Price. He has arguably the highest upside on the slate based on raw talent, and with so many top options, Price makes one of my favorite tournament options on the slate.
