Starting Nine 6/7/17

The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Yu Darvish – At the top end of the spectrum, I’m rolling with Yu Darvish against the Mets. The Mets looked good yesterday but they faced mediocre pitching. With all the lefties on the Mets team, you need a pitcher who’s been dominant against lefties and Darvish is just that. He’s limited lefties to a .300 wOBA while striking them out at about 27%. Darvish has been one of the best in the game for the last few years and he should be on full display today. If I wanted to pay up, Darvish would be my guy. I also consider him viable in all game types.

John Lackey – This is one of the riskiest plays of the day for me but one that makes a ton of sense. Lackey has been horrible this season, as well as the rest of this staff, but he gets a pretty decent matchup today and is cheap across the industry. Arrieta cruised through this Miami team yesterday allowing just two hits and I can see Lackey replicating his success. Outside of Gordon and Yelich, there isn’t any lefty that can really take advantage of him today. I expect him to be low-owned because of his recent struggles but at this price he has upside and gives you the ability to make great lineups.

Zack Greinke – It’s no secret how good he’s been this season and once again he’ll face a struggling Padres team that has been dominated by this Diamondbacks staff. Even in Chase Field, Robbie Ray was able to put together a phenomenal start yesterday and Greinke should be able to do the same. The Padres are amongst league worst in every category and that shouldn’t change because of a park upgrade. The only knock on Greinke would be his price, which limits his upside in tournaments, but there is a solid floor making him viable in cash. I have him ranked as my third starting pitcher on the night, more suitable to cash games.
