Starting Nine 6/30/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Lance McCullers – McCullers has been phenomenal this season. He’s had eight strikeouts each of the last four games and now gets a home matchup against a Yankee team that hasn’t been good on the road. I think most people will steer clear of the Yankees as they’ve been an elite offense this season, but the road splits are real. With Castro on the DL, this lineup isn’t as scary as it use to be. I like McCullers here at a $8.8k price tag on DraftKings, where he should provide a solid floor but has room for upside.
Robbie Ray – There is no denying Robbie Ray has been a strikeout machine this year, whether he’s been at home or on the road. I don’t like rostering him at home where the park heavily favors hitters, but even at Chase Field, the strikeout numbers are consistent. He’s already dominated this Rockies team once, and they are coming into this series ice cold. With the tough pricing around the industry today, and some questionable matchups, I don’t mind using Robbie Ray in this spot. It seems like we’re forced to make some tough decisions but the strikeout upside Ray brings to the table is enough for me. Even with all the righties in the projected lineup, Ray should be fine. He strikes out right-handed hitters at a 29% clip which is still elite. I like that he still gets a pitcher in this lineups as well, which should solidify his outing a little more. I’m willing to say he’s usable in cash as well, but the spot worries me a tiny bit.
Jacob deGrom – Jacob deGrom seems like the safest option on the board, but you’ll have to pay for him. He’s at home in a decent park facing one of the softest offenses in the league. Vegas has him as the biggest favorite on the day and for good reason. He’s been stellar throughout the season even with his tough schedule. The Phillies will try to combat him with as many lefties as they can, but Herrera, Galvis, Nava, Stassi, and Knapp wouldn’t scare me if I was pitching. It also helps that deGrom still strikes out lefties at 24% while holding them to a wOBA on the season. deGrom makes for the best play on the board if you can pay for him.
