Starting Nine 6/23/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Trevor Bauer – Bauer has faced the Twins multiple times and has destroyed them both times. He also never seems to go up in price, making him one of my favorite GPP plays every time he takes the mound. This Twins team has had a hard time hitting his curve ball, and if his command is on again tonight, he can dominate once again. This is a boom or bust play. Bauer has given up a ton of hard contact to lefties and the Twins should have seven in the lineup today. If he’s on with command I’ll be glad I had him, but if he’s off, I’ll make sure I have Twins hedge stacks to save me from one of the most volatile pitchers in the league.
Michael Fulmer – Fulmer gets one of the best matchups in baseball in one of the best pitcher’s parks in the league. San Diego is almost last in every single category in baseball. Somehow he’s come down in price on DraftKings when this is his best matchup of the season. In what I expect to be a pitching duel, Fulmer is one of my favorite options on the slate. He’s been great against both sides of the plate while limiting power to a sub .100 ISO. He strikes out righties less than he does lefties, but he’s held the right-handed production to a .299 wOBA. I’m not scared at all of this Padres team, making Fulmer a great play in all formats.
Alex Wood – Is there anything bad we can say about Alex Wood? He’s quietly been one of the best pitchers in the league and today gets another phenomenal matchup. Colorado has been atrocious away from home and now go into a pitchers park to face an elite left-hander. Alex Wood also has the stamp of approval from Dave Roberts, as Wood pitched into the 8th last start and had a great outing. If that continues, I think $9.3k is too cheap for this matchup. I love the strikeout matchup, I love the park, and I love his chances at a win. If I’m going to pay up, I feel comfortable using Alex Wood over some of the other pitchers in this tier.
