Starting Nine 6/14/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Francisco Liriano – The most volatile pitcher in the league returns to the Starting Nine. He gets a great matchup against Tampa that can go either of two ways. Liriano will get shelled and Tampa will be in contention for the top stack of the night, or Liriano goes six innings with eight strikeouts and is the highest point-per-dollar pitcher on the slate. I have him number one due to his price tag on DraftKings and the great strikeout matchup he gets. I will also have a ton of Tampa Bay stacks to hedge this play. As always with Liriano, I never go all in and I hedge a ton.
Matt Shoemaker – This Angels staff has tamed this Yankee offense this series and that should continue tonight. Shoemaker has had a string of tough matchups lately and has still held his own. His splitter has been more effective this last month and he’s always been better at home. With all the power righties in this Yankee lineup, Shoemaker is on the right side of the split. He’s been great against righties this year, holding them to a .314 wOBA and striking them out at 25%. At just $6.3 on DraftKings, he makes one of my favorite tournament plays on the night.
Corey Kluber – If Pineda was cheaper, I’d probably go with him instead of paying up for Kluber. Kluber might be more of a cash game play today but still makes some sense in tournaments where he shouldn’t be insanely owned. He faces a ton of lefties in today’s lineup that showcase a ton of power, but also come with strikeouts. Lefties have gotten to Kluber this season to the tune of a .335 wOBA and about a .150 ISO. This does seem like one of the tougher matchups on the season for Kluber, but because of that, it will make him contrarian in tournaments. I’m only fitting him with some of the cheap stacks and I’m not forcing him into my lineups.
Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
