Starting Nine 5/16/17

The data displayed will continue to be from the 2016 season until we get a big enough sample size this season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Yu Darvish – It’s simple. Darvish is amongst the best in the league in many strikeout categories and the Phillies are 7th in the league in K% vs. righties. The park is always scary when you’re pitching in Arlington, but the strikeout upside is the highest on the slate. The best hitters in this Phillies lineup come from the right side, a handedness that Darvish strikes out at 29%. Guys like Altherr, Franco, Joseph, Rupp, will all be at huge disadvantages and should bode well for Darvish. It also helps that the Rangers are huge favorites in this one, meaning a win is firmly in play for Darvish. I like making sure everything is lined up perfectly before I roster a stud pitcher, and everything looks good for Darvish today.

JC Ramirez – The White Sox are hot garbage. We saw what Chavez was able to do yesterday and I think Ramirez is a better pitcher. Fanvice is a huge fan of this guy and he should be in for another great outing. The park is greatly in his favor, the White Sox are in the bottom tier in almost every category against righties, and the Angels are also huge favorites. The dangerous hitters in this White Sox lineup are coming from the right side which Ramirez strikes out at 21%. He’s one of my favorite point-per-dollar plays on a slate where I love high-priced bats.

Jerad Eickhoff – My cheap option of the night will be Jerad Eickhoff. The Rangers are barely league average against right-handed pitchers and Eickhoff hasn’t been atrocious this year. This is another team who’s had their fair share of bad matchups to start the season. Eickhoff looks to have the perfect arsenal to go up against this Rangers team who strikes out quite a bit. Guys like Gallo, Napoli, Rua, DeShields could all strikeout multiple times. Eickhoff lets me afford all the bats I want while being contrarian and providing a bit of upside. I’m also trying to make a concerted effort to get away from the heard and Clayton Richard with this pick, but it’s one that could pay off dividends if it works.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
