Starting Nine 5/11/17

The data displayed will be a combination of 2016 and the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Derek Holland – We’re running into another tough pitching slate. This one might showcase Derek Holland as one of the top point-per-dollar plays and that’s scary. I dislike every pitcher on the slate so I’m just trying to get ten fantasy points at each spot. Holland has been surprisingly good this year and even though I think this matchup is tough, I’m hoping for 15 points from him. He’s struggled against righties dating back to last year and the strikeout numbers against them haven’t been all that impressive. This year he’s surprised everyone with his hot start and I hope it continues tonight. This is one of those games where you roster him and don’t watch one inning.

Dallas Keuchel – Keuchel has been great this season but it’s no secret that this will be one of his tougher challenges so far. The Yankees have been a great offense this year, especially in Yankee Stadium. I’m trusting that Keuchel can keep inducing soft contact and go deep into this game. If the pitcher slate was any better, I would not look twice at Keuchel as this matchup should pose problems. I’m rostering Keuchel for his floor and I acknowledge that the ceiling game is not in play from him tonight. I’m looking for pitcher who won’t finish in the negative today and Keuchel is one of them.

Gerrit Cole – Cole has sneakily performed well this season. I was on him heavily last start where he went seven innings with eight strikeouts and just one run allowed. I don’t like the park at all but the matchup isn’t as bad as it seems. The Diamondbacks have two lefties they can run out and that’s the handedness he struggles with. He should have his way with all the righties which are the best hitters on the team and has a pitcher in the lineup as well. Cole seems like one of my favorite pitchers on a rather dicey pitching slate. I think we can all agree this will be a tournament only slate.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
