Starting Nine 5/10/17

The data displayed will be a combination of 2016 and the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Stephen Strasburg – It’s the same matchup that Scherzer had yesterday except this one is IN Washington and he’ll be facing Wade Miley. Strasburg is a huge favorite in this game and for good reason. He dominates righties as well and faces a ton of them in this lineup. He’ll also face a pitcher in the lineup, something Scherzer didn’t have yesterday. It’s also easy to fit in the studs today due to pricing so Strasburg will be in most my lineups. The floor he provides is great for cash games but the upside he has in this matchup due to the strikeouts is good enough for tournaments as well.

Chris Archer – If it wasn’t for a couple mistakes yesterday, Andriese would’ve had a great outing. Tonight, Archer faces the same lineup and is a much better pitcher than Andriese. The Royals just aren’t good right now and are striking out at a higher rate than we’re used to seeing. It’s a little scary that the Royals are starting to hit a little better but Archer is on my short list of pitchers today. The park is extremely favorable and the Royals roll out six below-average hitters against righties so the matchup isn’t bad at all. The only way I see Archer getting into trouble is if he doesn’t have command of his fastball which is always a possibility.

Yu Darvish – I mentioned above that the pricing is letting me fit all the top tier pitchers today and Yu Darvish is one of them. He faces the Padres! I always get a little worried when he’s in Texas but the Padres provide so much upside that I’m willing to take the risk. Darvish and Archer are 2A and 2B for me and if I knew the ownership beforehand, I would side with the lower owned player. Darvish’s strikeout upside is HUGE in this game as the Padres projected lineup has four guys who can strikeout multiple times. It also benefits him that most of this Padres team has never faced him before and that could be a huge advantage for him. He’s almost a -200 favorite and makes one of my favorite tournament options tonight.
