Starting Nine 4/20/17

The data displayed will continue to be from the 2016 season until we get a big enough sample size this season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Noah Syndergaard – Syndergaard possesses the most upside on this slate. He’ll pitch at home against a Phillies team that hasn’t hit well this series and now faces the Mets best pitcher. As I mention every time there is a stud pitcher on the board, I need everything to line up perfectly for me to roster them, and tonight everything does for Syndergaard. At home in a good park, the strikeout matchup is great, there’s a pitcher in the order, and in line for a win as the Mets are heavy favorites. Thor will be in most of my lineups tonight.

Carlos Martinez – Due to the slate, Martinez will be in play for me. It’s difficult to pay up for bats as most of the high-priced guys aren’t on the slate. I realize the Brewers have been hitting well to start the season and, as of right now, should be a team to stay away from, but I have faith in Martinez. CarMart comes with extreme upside as he is a strikeout pitcher. If the Brewers finally cool down, this could be a great spot for Martinez to pay off his $9k price tag on DraftKings. If you’re making teams without Syndergaard, Martinez would be the guy I pivot to.

Patrick Corbin – The cheapie of the night will be Corbin against the Padres in San Diego. I know he hasn’t looked good, but no one would if they faced Cleveland and San Francisco in two of their first three starts. It also helps that he’ll be away from Chase Field for this one which is a huge upgrade. The price savings are well worth it and a 15-spot here would do wonders in tournaments. I’m much lower on the cheap pitchers tonight as I don’t see many great spots. He’s awful against righties but if he can dominate the two lefties, get through the pitcher, he could be in line for an okay night here. The Diamondbacks aren’t road favorites for no reason.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
