MLB Starting Nine – 4/09/17

The data displayed will continue to be from the 2016 season until we get a big enough sample size this season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.

Jake Arrieta – I haven’t rostered Arrieta in a while and if you know my style, I hate touting top stud pitchers but Arrieta is in one of the best spots on the day. He come with huge upside today as he gets one of the best strikeout matchups in all of baseball. It’s the Brewers and the numbers from last year continue to be true. The addition of Shaw has given the Brewers offense some life, but it’s nothing you should fear. The upside is so high in this spot that he has to be considered if you have the money.

Jose Quintana – A couple starts ago I recommended Holland because of how bad the Twins are against lefties. Today the Sox send out one of the better lefties in the league. Lefties hit for a woeful .285 wOBA against Quintana last year as he was able to limit the long ball and strike them out at about 22%. Guys like Mauer and Kepler are at a huge disadvantage today as this proves to be another ceiling spot for Quintana today. At his price across the industry, Quintana should be one of the better pt/$ options on the slate.

Wade Miley – Chacin worked wonders yesterday if you used my cheap pitcher of the night. Today that award belongs to Wade Miley who’s facing a watered-down Yankees lineup missing Sanchez behind the plate. Only two hitters in this lineup hit for above-average wOBA’s last year vs. lefties and that’s perfect for Miley. He struggled mightily against right-handed bats last year but when the righties in today’s lineup are guys like Judge, Carter, and Hicks, strikeouts are bound to happen. I love paying up for bats in tournaments and Miley lets me do that easily. He’s a price play that builds upside in my lineups. Roster at your own risk.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
