MLB Starting Nine – 4/12/17

The data displayed will continue to be from the 2016 season until we get a big enough sample size this season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots for today’s games.

Danny Salazar – Salazar simply comes with upside at this price. He faces a White Sox lineup that is opening up to strikeouts with guys like Garcia, Asche, and Anderson striking out significantly. It’s not the best matchup in the world but on this slate, you have plenty of money to afford him rather comfortably. He’s dominated righties in his career, striking them out at about 26%. The strikeouts should be enough to give him a nice floor in this early slate.

Jordan Montgomery – We all know about Scherzer and what he brings to the table so I’ll save us the time. Montgomery is a great young prospect who’s flown through the minor-league ranks. In AAA last year he averaged a strikeout per inning through 37 innings and dominated his six starts. If he continues to pound the strike zone with his four-pitch arsenal against this Tampa Bay team, he can achieve the same success Pineda did yesterday. He provides the salary relief we need to roster the Coors bats, and has tremendous upside at this price. Don’t fear the kid, he’s good.

Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
