MLB Pitching Prognostication 9/24/16 (Early)

All pricing is DraftKings unless otherwise stated

We have a five-game mini slate to start off our Saturday with some decent arms taking the mound. I prefer the hitters rather than the pitchers on this slate but there’s still some options that are viable for tournaments. I’ll mention the two I would target if I were playing the early slate. Here we go!

Yu Darvish – TEX at OAK – $10,400

Lately Oakland has been rolling out a strikeout heavy lineup and it showed yesterday when Hamels went seven innings of scoreless ball while racking up seven strikeouts. I expect RHP Yu Darvish to continue along those line and perform extremely well. Darvish has a better pitching arsenal and should go deep into this game. Keep in mind this series is in Oakland and the park shift favors Darvish in this matchup. A 25+ point game from Darvish is in the cards and that would be great in GPPs.

Jason Hammel – CHC vs. STL – $8,800

Jake Arrieta just dominated this team yesterday and I can see something similar from Hammel. Maddon has let his pitchers go the distance and if we can get a full game here from Hammel, he can make a run for the top scoring pitcher of the slate. There’s five hitters in this lineup who can strikeout multiple times if you account for the pitcher. It’s also worth noting that Hammel has dominated righties this season (.283 wOBA against), and this projected lineup is predominantly right-handed. Look for Hammel to go seven strong innings while picking up a strikeout per inning and the chance at a win.

Overview

With a short slate on the horizon and not many viable options, these two headline my lineups for the early slate. I much rather get creative with my hitters instead of rostering pitchers I’m not confident in. With Darvish and Hammel you not only have a solid floor for cash games, but they possess enough upside to be rostered in tournaments. Pay attention to lineups and get creative with your bats, as they should be the difference makers in this slate. Till next time, party animals!
