Now let’s get down to business with some insight from DraftCheat!
Tonight on FantasyDraft, we have a nice $7,000 Home Run with a very manageable $25 price point. The other thing to keep in mind is that 25% of the field will win tonight and with a 9 entry maximum on this tournament, no single player will flood the entry pool with a massive bankroll.
Starting Nine 8/18/17
The data displayed will be from the start of this 2017 season. I like displaying this information on one page so I can see which pitchers have the most strikeout opportunities on a given night. We know strikeouts are huge in MLB DFS and looking at this information as lineups come out help me pinpoint which pitchers have the best matchups. With this info in front of us, here are the pitchers I think are in the best spots tonight.
Max Scherzer at San Diego, $27,200
I don’t usually name top-tier pitching, as I don’t feel it’s a true recommendation, but with a few viable options in this tier, Max Scherzer is my must-have tonight. It’s a tough decision considering how good Kluber has been, but Scherzer gets the better matchup here and gets to pitch in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the league. He is still baseball’s best against right-handed hitting, limiting them to a .174 wOBA and striking them out close to 45%. Scherzer should get a heavy dose of righties in this Padres lineup and will face a pitcher as well. You will have to pay for him, but this feels like one of those days where double-digit strikeouts are guaranteed. I love him for all game types.
Matt Moore vs. Philadelphia, $9,900
These two plays go hand-in-hand. Matt Moore comes into the slate as the cheapest pitcher on the board, but also has one of the best matchups against the Phillies. Moore is coming off a game where he has a 12% swinging-strike rate, and struck out nine Nationals in the process. He’s been much better against right-handed hitting this season due to his changeup and off-speed offerings. The lineup he’ll face today should have an abundance of lefties and a pitcher in the lineup which helps in case he gets into trouble. At his price level you don’t need a gem, you need him to pay off his salary, in this case reach double-digit fantasy points, and let the rest of your lineups catapult you to the top. I often say how bats win tournaments, and that’s another reason why I think Moore is a great tournament play tonight.
Dallas Keuchel vs. Oakland, $21,100
After struggling a bit coming off the DL, Keuchel finally put together a great start last time out against Texas. You could’ve seen this coming though as Keuchel was flirting with a 13% swinging-strike rate the game before against the White Sox. I’m not ready to declare him totally back, but he looked really good last time out and now faces an Oakland team which is almost last in every offensive category. We’ve been streaming pitchers against Oakland for quite some time now, and it won’t stop now. Keuchel historically has been much better at home and those number continue to hold true this season. Hitters have a combined wOBA of .231 at home as opposed to .301 on the road. It also helps that he has one of the best offenses in the league behind him and should be in line for the win here as well. If you want to be different in tournaments and gain some ground on the field, Dallas Keuchel makes a great play.
Feel free to message me on Twitter (@MLora) with any questions regarding todays slate. I will confirm these plays and more on the Deeper Dive later today. I’ll also be in the premium slack chat answering questions leading up to lock. Till next time, party animals!
