FanVice NHL Power Plays 11/1/16
For today’s NHL Power Plays, we have a massive 12 Game slate to work with! Every team has had 1 day off so everyone should be rested, and we should see all the top goaltending tonight. There are a couple games that are prime matchups to pick on and some teams that will be heavily owned. The key to these slates is we need to find value plays to get the studs in the right matchup, and is also a very good way to be contrarian on a slate like this is to pay up for 2 defenders. Let’s see if we can find a couple diamonds in the rough along with your studs. Here are your GPP plays for tonight.
If you have any questions feel free to hit me up on twitter @Votts_dfs.
Connor McDavid – EDM vs TOR – $8,600
McDavid leads the league with 12 points and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. This game could be a shootout with all the young talent on big of these teams. TOR is still having trouble keeping the puck out of the net as they are the third worst in goals allowed per game at 3.78
Logan Couture – SJS vs ARI – $6,200
Couture ended his 3 game point drought last game with an assist, he now has 6 points on the year. He is seeing a lot of time on the top power-play unit, and almost eighteen minutes of ice time per game. Arizona plays wide open and their defense is atrocious giving up more than 4 goals a game. Sharks will be popular tonight, for good reason.
Nicklas Backstrom – WAS vs WPG – $5,900
Backstrom has been moved back to the top line with his running mate Alexander Ovechkin – W -$8,300. It has paid off with a point in each of his last 2 games. Now that he is with Ovie, look for the points to continue, especially against a Winnipeg team that allows just shy of 3 goals per game.
Artem Anisimov – CHI vs CGY -$5,700
Anisimov has 11 points in 9 games and also a 7 game point streak playing between 2 of the most elite wingers in the league (Patrick Kane -$8,300 & Artemi Panarin – $6,700)
Calgary is allowing three and a half goals per game, and while I do think the flames will throw everyone they can to stop this line, it just won’t be enough. Look for Anisimov to continue his point streak tonight.
Kyle Turris – OTT vs CAR -$5,400
Turris has started the year right where he left off last year with solid hockey. He has 6 points in 8 games. Along with manning the second powerplay unit, he is averaging a healthy 19 min of ice time per game. Car can possess the puck, but they are still the fourth worst in goals against per game giving at 4 gaa.
Jeff Skinner – CAR vs OTT – $6.100
Skinner has been on fire tallying eleven points in seven games, with a five game point streak. Skinner gives you excellent value as he is only priced $6,100, that’s too cheap for his recent production. Ottawa takes a lot of chances and plays a quick pace, I like the chances of Skinner keeping his streak going.
Joe Pavelski – SJS vs ARI – $7,700
Pavelski has been leading the charge for the sharks with 11 points in nine games. He also has 3 games with multiple points. Tonight is a great night to make it four games. Arizona gives up more than Four goals a game on average and tonight should be no different. With the wide open play of the YOTES look for Pavs to be all over the score sheet.
Patrick Kane – CHI vs CGY – $8,300
I’m not sure who will be higher owned tonight, Kane or Alex Ovechkin -$8,300. Regardless they are both in great spots and both make for great plays. Kane scored agains the flames the last time they played, a week ago. I think he also finds the scoresheet again tonight. Kane is averaging 23 min of ice time per game and Coach Quenville isn’t afraid to double shift him.
Jonathan Marchessault- FLA vs BOS – $5,600
Yes, I know he has been in every write up this year but he deserves it! He is still a tad too cheap at $5,100. Marcheesy has 11 points in nine games this year and multiple points in three of them. Boston s defense is not the monster it once was, and they are giving up 2.8 goals against per game. Look for Marchessault to continue his point tally.
Nick Foligno – CBJ vs DAL – $4,100
Sticking with the value train, enter Foligno. He was snake bitten last year, but has turned it around so far this year with 7 points in seven games. He has been playing on the top line and the top powerplay line. Dallas has been wildly inconsistent and they are giving up 3.25 goals against per game this year.
Alex Wennberg – CBJ vs DAL – $4,400
Wennberg has 7 points in seven games this year, recording a point in every game except two. He gives you some much needed salary relief, and plays on the top line and top powerplay unit also. Dallas has been extremely inconsistent and lacking defensive prowess. The BlueJackets are one of my favorite stacks tonight for the salary relief and the upside.
Vladislav Namestnikov – TBL vs NYI – $4,100
Namestnikov hasn’t had a point in 3 games, but I think that changes tonight. The Islanders are giving up 30 shots per game and averaging 2.8 goals against. Tonight we need to find value and Namestnikov helps by getting exposure to Stephen Stamkos – $7,900 on even strength lines and also the top power play line.
Colton Sceviour – FLA vs BOS – $3,000
Sceviour is coming off a game with a hat trick to give him a total of seven points in nine games. He plays on the second line and the second powerplay unit, which I believe the Bergeron line will be trying to shut down the top line against the panthers. Giving Sceviour a chance to keep tallying points up. The Bruins defense isn’t what it used to be, they are giving up 2.8 goals against on average.
Jason Pomenville – MIN vs BUF -$3,900
Since Zach Parise went down with the ankle injury, Pomenville has moved to the top line with Mikko Koivu – C – $4,700 and Mikael Granlund – W -$3,800. He is seeing a big bump in ice time and also top powerplay time. Buffalo is giving up 2.5 goals per game, and Pomenville could make for a good value play.
Brent Burns – SJS vs ARI – $8,400
I will be trying to get Burnsy in all or most of my lineups tonight. He has 9 points in nine games, averaging 5 shots per game and 3 blocks each game. He also gets to take on the defenseless Arizona Coyotes tonight and I think he could be close to the top point getter of the night.
Duncan Keith – CHI vs CGY – $5,800
Keith has 6 points in nine games this year and is quarterbacking the top powerplay line. He logs huge minutes, he has yet to get a goal this year but he contributes in other ways. Calgary ranks eighth worst in penalties per game averaging eleven minutes of penalties per game. Look for the Hawks to capitalize tonight.
Ryan Suter – MIN vs BUF – $5,600
Suter has recorded 10 points in nine games this year. He is a staple on defense and on the power play. Buffalo is a middle of the road team and they do give up opportunities. If you can’t afford studs, he is a good play with a solid floor.
Zach Werensky – CBJ vs DAL – $5,100
Werensky has 6 points in seven games this year and also plays in the top pp line. Dallas is giving up the seventh worst amount of goals per game at 3.25. Look for Werensky to keep adding points to his stats tonight.
Kris Russel EDM vs TOR – $4,400
Russel only has 3 points in nine games this year but I’m not looking for only points from him, he blocks a ton of shots and Toronto takes a ton of shots! Almost 35 per game, and they also let a lot of goals go to the back of the net, average of 3.75. Russel is in a good spot to have a great dk point night.
Alec Martinez – LAK vs ANH – $4,600
Martinez has been quietly putting a good year together. He has 7 points in nine games this year and logging a good amount of ice time, and top powerplay time also. He’s not a flashy skater but has been consistent and he doesn’t mind blocking shots, that’s why I like him.
Devin Dubnyk – MIN vs BUF – $8,100
Dubnyk has been playing out of his mind this year and has recorded 3 shutouts in a row. He has a ridiculous 1.43 goals against avg and a massive .952 save %.. Buffalos offense is middle of the road and it’s possible that the Dubber can log another shutout tonight.
Martin Jones – SJS vs ARI – $8,200
Jones has the best odds to win against a putrid Arizona team. He has been good with a .916 save % and a 2.1 goals against average.
