DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 8
Quarterback – below $6,500
Ryan Fitzpatrick – NYJ at CLE – $6,200
It’s not pretty. Ryan Fitzpatrick’s season has been marred with awful outings and questioning the management of the New York Jets. The schedule has not been kind to the Jets though through seven weeks and all of a sudden it makes turn towards much easier. The Browns rank 30th against the pass according to DVOA. Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte are both still high end offensive options. If the Jets are going to get their offense going, there is no better time than now.
Derek Carr – OAK at TB – $5,900
A second game in Florida for the Raiders has another good matchup for Derek Carr. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense has improved on their stats from last season, but is still a middling defense against the pass. Carr has been attempting over 30 passes a game and this contest has an over/under of 50.5. While there are options you could lean on, Carr’s offensive output always has upside.
Jameis Winston – TB vs OAK – $5,700
The other side of this contest has one of the best value plays of the week. Jameis Winston sees his price tag drop 200 dollars this week with a prime matchup on the horizon. We’ve spoken at length this season about the Raiders defense. They’ve yielded a league leading 2,115 yards through the air and Winston should have an easy time finding Mike Evans again and again. While Winston may miss Vincent Jackson, there should be enough pieces here for Winston to be one of the better value plays of the week.
Tyrod Taylor – BUF at NE – $5,300
Tyrod Taylor has been quietly producing for the Buffalo Bills offense despite losing Sammy Watkins early on this year. He’s used his legs enough this year to give himself a very solid floor each and every week. Though the Patriots are not a typically bad offense, they are ranked 25th against the pass in DVOA on the year. Taylor’s price tag has dipped from week seven to week eight and should be at least part of your research process this week.
Josh McCown – CLE vs NYJ – $5,200
Josh McCown has been cleared to play and gets a prime matchup with a Jets secondary that has struggled throughout the year. While McCown doesn’t have a ton of targets to exploit the New York defense, he does have enough to put up some good counting stats on at a very cheap price tag. The Jets rush defense has been great, so the Browns will have to pass to keep pace in this contest.
Running Back – below $5,000
Frank Gore – IND vs KC – $4,700
Frank Gore is not going to wow you. He isn’t going to put up gigantic rushing yards or touchdown totals. He has seen enough targets on the year to be considered at least a small part of the passing game and continues to see the lion share of running back snaps for the Colts. The Chiefs have yielded 100 yards rushing four out of six games this season and rank 19th against the rush according to DVOA. While Gore isn’t the highest of upside plays, he does give you consistency at a modest price tag.
Dwayne Washington – DET at HOU – $3,800
Do we finally get some Dwayne Washington in our lives? Here’s hoping. Washington has been sidelined for most of the season but got a full practice in on Tuesday. Houston just gave up the world to CJ Anderson and Devontae Booker on Monday night. We haven’t had a chance to truly see Washington shine yet, but if he is a 100%, and you are looking for a flyer of sorts at a cheap price tag, Washington may be your man.
Devontae Booker – DEN vs SD – $3,700
CJ Anderson is seeking a second opinion, but Devontae Booker was already nipping at his heels for carries in Denver. This matchup is very juicy for whatever back is in the lineup and it could even be such a plus matchup, both could be plays. San Diego ranks 18th in DVOA against the rush. Booker has shown the next gear needed to excel in the NFL. If Anderson is available, Booker still has some upside. If Anderson is out, Booker is going to be one of the top plays of the day.
Wide Receiver – below $5,000
Quincy Enunwa- NYJ at CLE – $4,800
The Jets offense has sputtered throughout the first seven weeks of the season. Quincy Enunwa looked like a great breakout candidate for the season as he roamed the slot for New York. Eric Decker’s injury and Ryan Fitzpatrick’s descent into some sort of personal hell has lead Enunwa out of the rotation of value plays. This week though, it feels like the Jets should get a major reprieve going up against the Browns. Cleveland is 30th in DVOA against the pass as well as 31st against WR2 on the year.
Mohamed Sanu – ATL vs GB – $4,100
While Green Bay’s defense has been pretty solid against the run this year, they have struggled, at times, against the pass. Mohamed Sanu’s targets have vacillated a bit this year, but this should be another top notch spot for him. Green Bay has struggled against both WR1 and WR2 on the season and this game currently has 52.5 over/under. We’ve yet to see what Tevin Coleman’s absence will do to the Falcons’ offense. Sanu should be very involved this week to try to make up for some of Coleman’s production.
Tyler Lockett – SEA at NO – $3, 900
Tyler Lockett was the sweetheart of many a preseason publication. After Russell Wilson tore up the second half of last year, many expected Lockett to take a big step forward this year. Well, we are still waiting. This week, the Seahawks come off one of the worst NFL games we’ve seen in a while and get a match up with the hapless pass defense of the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have actually been somewhat respectable against opposing WR1. WR2 on the other hand, the Saints rank 29th in pass DVOA. It is a bit of a leap of faith to believe the Seahawks can right everything that’s been ailing them, but there is no better week than this one to do so.
Marqise Lee – JAX at TEN – $3,300 (Thu)
Marqise Lee gave us a great output last week on eight targets. He hauled in seven receptions.for 107 total yards receiving. Lee continues to be a constant target for Blake Bortles and has done a great job of converting on his opportunities. Tennessee is a bottom third team against the pass and should be a good matchup for Lee.
Tight End – below $4,000
Gary Barnidge – CLE vs NYJ – $3,300
On the year, the Jets have given up nearly 400 yards receiving to opposing tight ends. Overall, the Jets have struggled mightily against the pass. With Josh McCown back, Barnidge should be inline for an good uptick in work. The Jets are a middling team overall against tight ends, but this should be considered a prime matchup for Barnidge.
CJ Fiedorowicz – HOU vs DET – $2,800
Houston tight end CJ Fiedorowicz has had a nice increase in targets over the season. While Brock Osweiller has struggled mightily, Fiedorowicz has been a great addition for season long and daily fantasy owners alike. The Detroit Lions have had a tough time against the pass and rank near the bottom against the position. Osweiller should not be trusted but his tight end makes for a good play this weekend.
Defense/Special Teams – below $3,400
Lions – DET at HOU – $2,500
While Fiedorowicz is in a good spot, this may be a time to deploy the Detroit defense against an awful Texans offense. Lamar Miller is banged up and Osweiller continues to struggle in the pass game. The Houston quarterback has thrown eight interceptions on the year and could be in line for a couple more this weekend.
Browns – CLE vs NYJ – $2,500
It all depends on how adventurous you want to be this week, but if you believe bad Ryan Fitzpatrick is, in fact, who Ryan Fitzpatrick is this year, this could be the cheap defense for you. Fitzpatrick has thrown 11 picks on the year and Cleveland could be set to pick up a couple more on Sunday.
