Now back to the great analysis from Ben!
Most of you know me as a FanVice PGA analyst, but in addition to that I dabble in the higher stakes NFL DFS world as well as play a lot of NBA volume, in addition to some college football and basketball wagering. With all this fun and excitment, who has time for sleep!?!? This has allowed me to carve out a nice non-traditional way to make a living. The other thing I have learned is that we need to look for that mysterious “edge” where we can find it which will help tip the scales in our favor. Being a New York resident, I didn’t know much about BOOM Fantasy since I could only register for games when I was traveling outside of the state.
However, they just received approval from the New York State Legislature so I decided to check them out. Essentially, the contests are a series of “proposition-like” questions and as you select your answers, that forms your lineups.
This is a very unique style of gaming and runs counter choosing players within a salary cap and position requirement format like we are used to. This is where we should be able to find some advantages that the more casual players may overlook. We will begin this journey together! BOOM Fantasy has the same type of contest familiar contest formats whether its multi-entry GPPs or H2Hs where you are taking on one opponent.
We cap off an exciting Week 3 in the NFL with a NFC battle between the Cowboys and the Cardinals in Arizona. Since BOOM Fantasy can offer single game slates (by combining the NFL game questions with some from an MLB game) here is a breakdown of how I will be approaching this Monday night contest:
Question 1 – More Passing TDs – Carson Palmer or Dak Prescott – Carson Palmer has looked like he might be done with some shaky QB play so far, this year and with some depleted weapons around him. Dak has the luxury of having Zeke at RB to balance out the offense which caps his upside, but allows him to not have to force in throws. Palmer is the favorite here which makes sense as the Cardinals may be playing from behind, but I do not mind going a little contrarian with Dak and hope he connects early and often with Dez for a few TDs. Each passing touchdown will be awarded +3,000 points
Question 2 – Most Rushing Yards – Ezekiel Elliott, Chris Johnson, Kerwynn Williams, Dak Prescott – The Cardinals lost their all world RB David Johnson in Week 1 so they have to rely on a few backs to try and pick up the slack. This makes it hard to project carries and makes them a risky target here. It also doesn’t help that they are facing Zeke who should be angry after his ugly showing last week. Pretty simple plug and play here for Zeke as he should be fed early and often in this one. Each rushing yard will be awarded +100 points
Questions 3 – Most Receiving Yards – Jaron Brown, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, Jermaine Gresham – Besides Gresham, who I think has almost no chance here the other three options are all viable. Jaron Brown was targeted 11 times last week so Palmer clearly likes him and Beasley is one of the more reliable pass catchers for the Cowboys. Terrance Williams has shown some promise, but I have him third behind the other two. I will try and pair up Palmer and Brown and Dak and Beasley in the hope they can connect for a few long passes. Each receiving yard will be awarded +100 points
Question 4 – Most Receptions Jason Witten, J.J Nelson, Ezekiel Elliott, Andre Ellington – Witten is the favorite here as his volume is usually pretty stable which is key for this question. Nelson is more of a burner than a possession receiver and Zeke is not known for his pass catching ability. I will most likely take a huge risk with Ellington and hope for the monster bonus, or take the steady volume of Witten. Each reception will be awarded +1,000 points
Question 5 – Most TDs J.J Nelson, Jason Witten, Jaron Brown, Cole Beasley– You want to correlate this question to the previous two especially Question 3 – as whoever you choose here should be at an advantage for most reception yards. I lean Nelson or Brown here, as the Cowboys main weapons are Zeke and Dez who have the most TD equity on the team along with Dak. Plus, if the Cardinals are behind they should be throwing giving these guys plenty of chances for some big plays. Each receiving touchdown will be awarded +6,000 points
Question 6 – Made Field Goals vs Total Bases – Now we get to the baseball field goal kicking question with Dan Bailey, Phil Dawson, Nolan Arenado, and Giancarlo Stanton listed. I always lean toward going with one of the baseball players, but make sure to check that they are in the lineup and have a decent matchup especially with more and more teams resting guys down the stretch. Each made field goal/base will be awarded +2,500 points
Question 7 – Receiving Yards for Larry Fitzgerald – With DJ sidelined a lot of the offensive burden has fallen on Fitz who may or may not be able to handle it. He is still super reliable, but not the dominant receiver he once was. Upside somewhat limited, but still a solid floor has me thinking around 55-60 yards for Fitz in this spot. +/- 3 yards – 30,000 points, +/- 10 yards 20,000 points, +/- 20 yards 10,000 points
Question 8 – Receiving Yards for Dez Bryant – Cowboys top receiver who may not be needed late if they get out to a big lead. Still the upside is there so you can take a shot with a big game of 75-100 yards even though I think 60ish is more realistic. +/- 3 yards – 30,000 points, +/- 10 yards 20,000 points, +/- 20 yards 10,000 points
I will be doing some other NFL content this year and still plan on crushing Golf year-round, but if you have any questions find me in the FanVice Premium slack chat or on Twitter @JazzrazDFS
